Seems like no one posted about this article about SBST buying another batch of 1000 buses? It's just in.
"Delivery from as early as Jan 2013"..."comprising 450 award-winning Mercedes Citaro buses and 550 Volvo B9TL Wright buses.."
"Of the 1000 new buses, 260 will be funded by the Government under the Bus Services Enhancement Programme (BSEP), while SBS Transit will fund the (other) 740 buses under its growth and replacement plans."
This article means:
1) King Longs are not bought by the Govt for SBST after all, so probably the ones we're seeing is just a trial that was rejected by SBST totally?
2) Depends on whether you like Citaros or hate it, there's gonna be more Citaros. Damn. I expect more flamewars here now..
3) The case of more Wrights mirrors the scenario of the VO3xs Batch 1/2/3s in the 90s..except their bodies all look the same. I don't expect them to change their EDS any further to differentiate the different batches as of now..

Wrights is probably because there's no other viable DD model for now? Plus given they already have like quite a sizeable amount of Wrights (450 of them) in the first place from the earlier batches, it makes for easier repair and maintenance too cause the spare parts can be used for like now a total of 450+550 = 1000 Wrights. More cost-efficient for them in the long-term.
As for Citaros, these must be the Gen 3 Citaros (aka the New Citaro) given MB already started producing the new Citaros. Although I have no idea how are they gonna deploy that many Citaros..but delievery should take till 2015 at least given how long the current 300 took to come out. So should be replacing the Mk4s across all batches cause even if extended, their lifespans should end somewhere around 2015.
In the future, we have 1000 Wrights, 1100 KUBs and 750 SBST Citaros..
*faints*

Wrights can replace LO3x and VO3x
Citaros maybe replace the Volvo buses

Yeah I would think the Enviros might be better, but i think SBST is looking at ease of replacement parts & hence lower costs in the long term, that's why they are going for total of 1000 Wrights in the future. Adverts also easier to print cause just use the same template for the 1000 Wrights..

Looks like does have much variety of buses for SBS part.
I still think there's 1 more replacement exercise.. but long long later... cos fleet size likely expand to 3300
