Hello!
I am a student, and currently doing an innovation research project at the Vienna University of Business and Economics on intermodal transportation in megacities.
Singapore is one of the world's megacities and you as its inhabitants should know a lot about mobility and transportation problems and their possible solutions. I would be really happy if you provide an opinion or ideas on how particularly the problem of intermodality might be solved. What can be considered as a good solution? May be anybody has developed interesting design solutions or has an interesting idea about what actually could be done?
I am interested in your opinions, and mostly in people who express them. If you know anybody who is developing or having in mind interesting solutions on intermodal transportation - please, refer me to them. I will be very thankful to you!
I'm looking forward to your replies!
Thanks and best wishes from Vienna!
Vera
Hi Vera,
Intermodal travel would necessitate transfer, so action should be taken to reduce the "transfer penalty".
To name a few:
Singapore has constructed transfer "hubs", where passengers can make train-bus transfers in air-condition comfort.
In the area of fare integration, Singapore has moved to a "distance-based fare" system, where passengers pay by total distance travelled, regardless of the number of transfers made.
Some major bus stops show bus arrival times on a display panel. Bus arrival times are also available on the phone/internet. This reduces uncertainty.

Hey TIB1182J,
Thanks for the reply! That is very useful information, I have checked all web sites you mentioned and will contact people from there. If you can refer me to a paticular person who deals with intermodality and integrated payment methods, I will be very thankful!
Cheers,
Vera
