accordingly to last tuesday Straitstimes during one of the interview with the transport minister, he have mention that LTA have put on hold the opening up of the transport industry for new entrants.... and LTA is not going to package the routes together to tender out for the time being due to the difficulties in packaging the routes....
so the previous transport minister plan was shelved...SBST/SMRT will still remain the two operators of Buses/MRT. here for the next few years at least....

our market too small to support any more players for public transport. two already struggling.
Good move from LTA. It's not necessary to get in more players. More players doesn't mean service standards would improve and fares wouldn't increase. If an operator is not big enough, it may not be able to cross cover up unprofitable routes hence giving more problems instead. As our train network keeps expanding, its even more unnecessary for new entrants to come in.
Also, larger operators enjoy greater economies of scale in their business operations, which may help prevent sharper fare increases.
maybe they never had any plans to open up the market
all these talk is just to calm the public down and bring about fears n rumours..
LTA should open the market, but SMRT and SBS = GLC =LTA=PAP see the link? Why should the LTA open this market to others? How the GLC answer to the shares holders "PAP suppporters" if both company losting money. unless next election WP win 50% of the votes that will be different story.
Govt is govt, politics is politics.
Thank you very much.
Dun ever forget just how on earth SBS was formed... I dun mean dun open up, but just why ppl decided to form up and later on govt or SAF's intervention into SBS....
