I personally think that high demand bus services should be made to be operated by both SMRT and SBS Transit in order to cater high loads on normal periods and even higher loads during the peak hours/weekends. I do recall that some bus services in HK are actually dual-operated in a single service. Services like 190, 67, 171, 168, 161 and more others are actually struggling with the high load currently. Whats your take? Post it here.
that's only the older cross harbour servies.
New XHT Svs like those using West Harbour such as 960 & 968 (KMB), 962 (CTB), 970 (NWFB)...
All has to do with KMB 108 of breaking the monotone as CMB felt there's no benefit in operating it....
Some problems w/ dual operator is say SMRT's slot is SMRT's planning, SBS's slot is how SBS allocate the dispatch...

if somehow SBST and SMRT can get along together and able to agree on both terms and conditions, i dont think its really a hassle. make those dual-operated to have fixed schedules instead of SMRT overtaking SBST buses all the time.

Problem is SBS & SMRT will never see proper schedules... nothing to do w/ planning

They won't because the schedules would be confidential to each other!

There's no issue with schedule actually... But the bus in and out timing would be the problematic one
Unless both can compromised on dispatching buses on alternative slots. But would it be a bit messy and cause confusion?
Cheers.
instead of dual-operated svcs, i'd rather prefer each operator operating their own routes. however, both operators should be allowed to operate similar high-demand routes of up to say about 90% duplication. for instance, allow SBST to operate another route that duplicates up to 90% of SMRT's svc 190. And bus interchanges should be under LTA, to allow rival operators easier access to penetrate into different territorities.
And now that our govt is bent to cut down further number of COEs to force more people take public transport, its crucial time for both operators to buy more bigger capacity buses. And this is especially so when bus companies are complaining of difficulties recruiting bus captains.
I believe majority of passengers would not like to stand throughout their journeys. And if car owners are forced to take public transport and stand onboard buses, I think would create resentment and frustration. Double-deckers are the choice. And there are also smaller and shorter double-deckers available in the market to fill in the gap between a single-deck and existing 3-axle double-deckers; just like HK.
SMRT buses rushing?
Seriously I should be asking, why rush?
Many a times ends up into a lot of avoidable accident like slowing down before approaching bus stop.
Many SMRT drivers can still be acclerating even approaching junction.. If light turn amber and bus is packed, how to brake?
Driving is not only solely abt braking and accelerating.

i hope its not because they don't have enough buses and bus captains and thus forced to speed up travel time to shorten the turn-around time.
