I and my friends witnessed 9642P on 166 towards Ang Mo Kio direction catching fire at it's rear engine and aircon compartment and burning down along Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 at 240pm.The situation looked quite serious with the bus's rear burning like nobody's business. We were on 9525U on 132 right behind it when we witnessed it burning down.Wonder what happened after that.I wonder what would the fate of 9642P would be.
And well, what do u know.I just remembered this coindicentially.9642P is an AMDEP DD.Not another AMDEP DD to burn down just like that after the 6 DDs burned down inside the depot.Losing DD after DD.What the hell is going on inside AMDEP..
?caused by electrical fault..
seems like there's an increase in cases of vehicles catching fire & when I say vehicles, I don't just mean buses only..
Think 9013E.
dun pinpoint the fault if u dun noe
fire can be coz by few other reasons
That's sad.
Hope SBST can salvage the bus by getting spare engines from the deregistered VO2xes...

i boarded 9642 on 133 last wed.
engine alr had problem. was over-revving throughout the journey.
if this bus shld be de-regged, let it be.
hmm engine overheat?
Haiz
another DD..
If main chassis was damaged, doubt can salvage. Electrical shortage can always lead to fire, and it might not be the electrician fault, sometimes it was bcos rats will bite the electrical wiring and cause short circuit. Some of my experience sharing.
Cheers.
I don't think it is due to eletrical faults, but I feel it was under-maintained and it did not have enough rest.

I hope so. Don't even know how many DDs have been burnt down.
When 9642P was under 88, I still remember this bus was a sweet bus to take. Very comfortable and mechanically as good as could be.

Yeah correct. That was exactly what i and my friends saw b4 the bus caught fire. The bus was chionging like crazy all the way along Upp Thomson Rd to Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 and i saw the BC kept flooring the bus even more..Even when we 1st saw the fire which had just started and was small at 1st,the BC was still flooring the bus which we saw in our own eyes in turn sparked off the fire bigger and spread into the rear engine and aircon compartments.

ZF transmission problem?
I wonder if the bus has nw been laid up alr??Hopefully the fire stayed at the rear section of the bus as we saw it that day and didnt spread to the front part at all..
nope, just checked & still not on lay-up status..
I see..I just wish nth bad would happen to it and am hoping for the best.I am not at all prepared to see us losing more and more DDs slowly after the 6 DDs losed at one shot which is alr very bad enough.

BC kept driving even though the bus was already on fire?
O_O
wah fire start still *flooring* ah... whats the BC up to sia one more bus gone case like that
Eh i thought if engine on fire it will automatically shut off?Applied to Volvo,MBs and Scanias buses.
i dun think that the bus is burn out completely? maybe small part damage? or else the newspaper/stomp sure report one... bus not spotted in AMDEP leh...

maybe. which resulted to engine overheating and burnt components.

Engine overheat seldom catch fire, at most radiator burst with steam pressure. Then engine will lose power and eventually seize up even(engine totalled). Altho there are cases of engine overheat and catch fire but those happened in extreme conditions like in desert areas like australia outbacks etc.
u need sometime tat is combustable to start the fire n never the case in just engine overheating.
radiator will not burst with steam and most probably a burst radiator hose as most radiator caps will release pressure at 15 psi
