Humm I wonder PTC will put pressure on SMRT on the increase of bus fair? Since one GLC buying from one GLC and people money passing back to the government. So should the government allow it GLCs to ask for price increase? Humm Where the money end up i wonder?????
Since both are GLC SMRT should not ask for bus fair to increase as the money still follow back to the people. or "board of directors" i wonder. So is left hand pass the money to right hand. is there any Klong factor between GLCs?
wa lan.
Now I see the cost per unit.....I gotta ask again.
You mean this justifies ANY fare hike?
Sorry. But SMRT is disappointing me even if I like MAN....its a rather wasteful purchase when what we need are really higher capacity buses....otherwise buses that are not too expensive and at least have a larger spare-parts market here that can help lower depreciation costs.
Doubtless SMRT's purchase might lower the costs for SBST if it decides to purchase MAN...but why SMRT did not follow up with larger orders on the Citaro is really mystifying especially since SBST is already doing it a favour with a large Citaro order.
In short, SMRT's decision gets an F from me again. 10 Citaros? 10 BYDs? Now 100++ MAN.
How is this productive, you ask me?
SBST gets my support for the fare hike. NOT SMRT. Uber disappointing with what I've been hearing.
Maybe someone should help justify this purchase and help restore any faith in SMRT in me.
But before that:
Here's what our transport minister has to say:
The Transport Minister pointed out that, an entity that depends on Government funding and which operates on a cost-recovery basis, "would have little incentive to keep costs down".
Said Mr Lui: "Cost increases will be passed on to commuters. Over time, this will lead to higher costs for the same level of service, which means commuters pay higher - and not lower - fares. Not only would people have to pay more, nationalising the operators could result in a stagnation of service quality or efficiency over time."
What nonsense. I'm not buying WP's arguments either. The problem here doesn't lie with privatisation but with who's actually calling the shots and the how the market is regulated! You can nationalise and give crappy services, but you can also privatise and still give crappy services!
Are our politicians treating people like us as bystanding idiots?

i wonder whether you got think properly or not before you shoot blindly? one GLC buying from another GLC and money passing back to the government? Then you mean STK got the buses from MAN for free??????? STK go where get these buses? They dun need to pay to MAN for the buses?

so SMRT will pass S$65 million to STK and STK will pass back these money to govt and board of directors? THINK PROPERLY..... dun anyhow shoot....
if this is the case, then SBST also passed at least S$90 million to C&C for the citaros and C&C board of directors must be happy also.... then what about the Mercedes Benz factory ? They GET NOTHING in shipping out the buses?

Cost per unit? Do you have accurate and confirmed number of buses this 65mil is worth? Everything here is speculation. Look at smrt's annual report for some info on their plan on fleet replacement and expansion.
Why not citaro? If smrt needs buses asap, can they wait for 300 sbst citaros to complete production and delivery? Don't forget there might already be other companies ordering their buses from MB already. If it takes about 1 year to queue for the order, is it still viable to buy citaros? These are things that companies have to decide that's not quite visible to the general public. STK on the other hand, can simply buy imported chassis imported kits to build locally, at any time and rate they want.
Mr Lui is talking about a govt entity which WP proposed for, so please dont mis-quote him.

Which was why I seek clarification at the end. BUT....its also a known fact that MAN was never known to be cheap to start with.
Ok, so where's the "remaining" Citaro purported to have been purchased as raised by lemon1974? Nobody has yet to answer that.
So why didn't SMRT build on that earlier Citaro order? And then if we follow your logic (prefectly logical), then SMRT's purchase and earlier trial might have convinced SBST to put bulk order, thereby preventing SMRT access to Citaros in quick order....like that is lagi LPPL right? Because even if SBST's purchase wasn't directly related, it is inextricably linked because the trial and purchase would have vindicated the Citaro (hmmm yes, nice bus => let's buy it!)
Costs aside. Where's my DDs and bendies?
Why SDs again?
You are convinced by SMRT's claim at "trying to be productive"? I am far from being impressed. SBST certainly doesn't advertise 160/170 on its NEL. *snorts*
But I like the MAN. How ironic.
I just think SMRT's is doing a half-baked job. And this is but a reflection of it.
So this is the 10.5litre with 320hp and 1400nm right? But seriously they need at least another 100 bendy or DD buses.I think is not fleet expansion more like one to one replacement for the 4xx series O405s,UDs etc.Still not enough for total operation. They need at least another 350 WAB buses and for God sake Toh Tuck area got 1 company moving out so its ideal to lease and built a multi storey depot to replace Kranji.
Deja vu right.....bro.
For so many years now we've been talking about "SMRT should get DDs/bendies", until now we still get very nice SD chassis.
You tell me.
Hmm ya lor,I wish that at least they replace those MK 1 bendy with MAN bendys first.AMDEP should venture the former SSDC area for more bus storage.WLDEP need to transfer those Taxis out too.Come to think of it there an empty land near Toh Tuck which suit nicely for a bus depot and if there's plan for it Toh Tuck can easily concentrate more on BBT,CCK,167,176,851,188,855,963,RWS8,106 & 970.So no need to waste more fuel for AMDEP side to go central.Kranji can close shop.At night more scary with buses queing up at the narrow road.Bulit one just like Soon Lee and can easily save the hussle of returning back for ONP.
Come to think of it....SMRT has a penchant for powerful buses.
Why ah?
SBST prefers slow but reliable.
SMRT prefers fast but catch fire.
Hey, they rhyme!
hanor
nationalising dun make sense, you get e cream of e corps to run your buses??? lol
That said, it all boils down to e mgmt.
That said, govt should start to build proper bus int, revise their workers levy, ERP and so on...
I guess, referrring to SMRT's annual report.. Looks like $65m is for some 210 MAN.. Works out to be $310,000 per bus.
Oh
Cross border bus svs standard goes to show zheng hu's econs of free market...
epic failure.
That sounds too little.
But anyway, we gotta suck thumb, wait and watch.
Actually WP's proposal pretty flawed also.. as in reality when you visualise zero margin...
ok lor.. fuel price up today, tml raise 1c until it drops.. rise further up 1c next day.
just as we alrdy kpkb abt fare adjustment..
as like MBT's housing policy, if one realises it... WP is just placing a posion pill in politics be it for PAP or themselves...
That's why politicians should never suggest ops things when they've little knowledge...

For 106, Can park overnight at GLBP, I feel it is more time saving.

I definitely find no point in this, Then what's the use for KJDEP in the early days, Where KJ 167 and co. park?
If you are referring to SMRT buses operation, of course.

how to expand fleet
I guess SBS would also be facing tis in no time.
if smrt choses to bring in only SD in the future, they need to expand/upgrade their existing depots.
now.

Too bad SBST buses still catch fire...somemore it's in a group..
Ytd I saw 1135 on 67...
best
The exhaust filling up the entire place when bus stopped at traffic junction...
Reminds me, the rear bumper of SMRT buses getting cui.. tis goes missing, tat kena smacked. From UD to O405 to Habits.

part of the money will pass back to GOV and "board of directors" C&C is a PTE, is not a GLC so what ever money made is to the company not to GOV.
