SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said SBS Transit and SMRT have made improvements to 17 bus services between April and June this year.
The improvements include deploying higher capacity buses or adding more bus trips along sectors that have experienced consistent heavy ridership.
LTA was releasing the results of its quarterly review of public bus services.
SBS Transit has added more bus trips to six bus services 3, 81, 98, 222, 225 and 315 while four higher-capacity double-deck buses have been deployed on services 37 and 246.
The operator has also added six single-deck buses on services 39, 163, 200, 235 and 240.
SMRT had identified four heavily-utilised services for improvement.
On Service 806, more bus trips and three high-capacity bendy buses have been added during weekday peak periods and on weekends.
SMRT has also deployed another bus on Express Bus Service 971E, which will add a trip to the current two that are run during weekday morning peak hours.
Daily late night bus trips have also been added to Service 189A from June 12, 2011 to provide greater connectivity for Bukit Batok residents heading home from Bukit Batok MRT Station.
In addition, SMRT has also added more bus trips and deployed one more bus on Service 75 from June 26, 2011.
LTA said since the first quarterly review of bus services in June last year, the operators have already added 233 bus trips and improved 53 services.
This round of improvements will add 187 more bus trips.
Apart from improving services during peak hours, the operators have also improved four bus services during off-peak hours this round.
LTA said it will continue to work closely with the operators to improve bus services.

Not really. Convenient for those living in the inner parts of Bukit Panjang, but I am afraid this will allow them to increase more and more trips and eventually try to push commuters up 971E instead of 190/700 by decreasing frequencies.
And with the opening of the Downtown Line, they might just scrap 190 and 700 for good and ask people to take 971E if they want to take buses to Orchard Road.
Does the double deckers on 37 operate full day or during peak hours only???
