I think should be fair to SBST, since SMRT had taken away loads in CCL, SMRT should give up some bus routes in return to SBST.
nothing is fair.. esp in the context of singapore's transport scene..
u see SBS gave up BP/CCK/BB in exchange for North east sector 864 865 866..
out of all the buses SBS took over from TIBS, most were originally SBS's (82 103 163 820 821).. today, none of the ex-TIBS services retained their TIBS routes..
but put it in a harsher tone... since both are GLCs... is there any differences in who gets to operate what? u think there will be a day where there be same route diff services like in JB? so long as the service is there.. public wont complain about operators or what-nots.. its good that theres a monopoly so that resources wont be wasted.. (how contradicting)
only party concerned will be minority shareholders..
took CCL yesterday.... got kicked out at paya lebar.. on a weekend.... train freq still 7-8 mins... beyond paya lebar.. not many passengers.. loads still quite ok..

163 has to be amended, same case as many of the bus routes like 61, 106 when were extended at Clementi & Bt Batok developed else how can e bus co cope?
JB?? Take a look at e mess, ends up e Taman are not well served. Even HI say not making $$ and to fight 'competition'. Even M'sia govt acknowledge this matter.
CCL has SWT on Sat afternoon 12noon - 1430.
The best is EWL SWT these days
Boon Lay - Pasir Ris

MBT was the one tat talked abt multi model operator, which leads to today's problem.
MBT was the one tat did not approve MRT for NE corridor even though undeveloped Admiralty & Sembawang ridiculously got MRT 1st.
MBT was defeated by CST in 1984 with 39% of the votes.
MBT was the mini star i/c of land planning and gave SBS drivers smaller bus int for profits by selling it to private developer.
MBT was GM in SBS.
MBT came w ERP which made SBS & Tibs then to start paying ERP. Even lorries paid so much more, driving up business cost.
In the first place, we ought not to have a mini star called MBT creating all e legacy problem.

I thought SBST is not extending the VO2xes???
They listed in their website that all non air con buses will be gone by 2012...

As mentioned by lemon1974 above, highly likely the VO2x will take its leave as the rest of the wrights come in. So it would still meet the 2012 deadline.

even with extension, they can still deregistered all of them in 2012 when the balance new wrights came in... they are now selectively deregister some of the Vo2x first... 7201 should be gone soon.

Bad engine?

Then are there any instance of extended lifespan reverted back to its original lifespan?

I believe it is the mechanics decision that has the final say.

Well, there issnt a need to revert back the lifespan. Its always possible to lay up the vehicle early and dereg it as long there is enough vehicles to cope with the demand.
Of course, a proper plan has to be set in place. There's no point extending and then paying road tax but end up dereg few days later. However, leaving a bus in the depot and keeping it as spare also mean that there's one more bus to go for periodic maintainance.

Revert back also involves a lot of processing and papaerwork as well...
