A SMRT bendy bus burnt down at Circuit Road last night. The rear was destroyed by the fire. The damage is the same as TIB1105H which caught fire a few years ago.
SMRT really never take care of their buses. Just last month a Scania bus burnt down at BKE.
another bus out of action
Tighter fleet to come
SMRT maintenance of their buses is really jialat. will they spend 2 years to repair the bus just like TIB1105H?
Better not repair. It'll cost even more to rebuild than TIB1105H which already cost a bomb to SMRT...
I rather SMRT now concentrate on their buses even more instead of just trains...
is this the reason why i was standing at serangoon north road this morning at 4am and saw a truck pulling a charred SMRT bendy bus?

4am? wow! Think they are checking and letting the heat cool down which takes hours before towing, like TIB566S.
i think SMRT shld look back at all its bendy, especially the hispano ones
3 bendys burnt already & no action has taken ?
One more bus taken out of route 61? That is terrible.

At this rate SMRT's entire bus fleet will be gone in 5 years.

Btw, read in STOMP that there is another SBST bus caught fire around the same area as well. What bus was that??? Is it as serious as this???
ppl these days cannot differentiate SBS & SMRT bus

So that means only 1 bus was burnt last night???
Not surprising actually, most people still call TIBS bus.

That's because they can't see logo at the side when it's on fire. :D
If I'm not wrong this bus was cameoing.

Nope, it's TIB1074M, a 61 permer.
If TIB1074M is going home from last on either side or the last 4 on any other day, I'm not surprised. With that kind of timing plus anytime on sunday might do 67, It's no surprise it got overheat severely.

Huh? Don't think it caught fire because it is driven on the roads for long hours. May be due to other technical problems or electrical faults. Buses and even cars are able to withstand long hours of driving. What about the long distance coaches in other countries where they are driven almost for 24 hours?

I don't think these x-country buses do that often do they? Even if I were to drive straight from Singapore to thailand I'll definitely need to find somewhere to stay, let alone vehicles.
I hardly believe in electrical faults. It's always the engine that's the main culprit.
I think it is due to petrol leakage as u look carefully at the video. It shows petrol leaking onto the opposite lane. But SBS7557R aka SBS8930P says it is due to the EDS...

Granted I'm not any better, but I still believe engine is the root of the cause. I won't go beyond this line.

I've never heard of any of our JB MKIIIs catching fire.
Granted, the strain on a bendy's engine is of course greater, but the MKIII is one heck of a reliable and rugged bus.
Originally posted by TIB 781 L:If it is EDS I seriously doubt it has a part to play whatever the case before any war starts off, I will sum it up by saying the engine's the main culprit, fine granted I'm not any better I apologize but it's still engine that has a part to play.
According to the stomp article, the fire started from the back of the bus... Maybe the engine that caused the oil leakage...

I've watched the video and yeah, no doubt there was petrol there, but seems like the looks of engine gives it all away.
I think I'd better rest my case here incase someone tries to find war over this.
