According to the speech of Workers Party at Bedok on Saturday, they gave these suggestion:
1) Merge SBS Transit and SMRT to form one company under the government
2) Off-peak travel fare
So, how you think of this suggestion, or you have better one? Post them here! Also, please try not to mention who are you voting here as it should be a secret.
I cannot be bothered. Because WP contesting in my area but never bother to show up to introduce themselves, they don't even distribute leaflets to let us know info about them. They visited other areas under the same constituency but not mine. I am not voting them.

Asst driver?? Do you know they've been allocated to day, afternoon, peak hr shift?
Off peak travel fare has alrdy been applied to senior citizens after AM peak hrs. And no, I'm against any senior citizen concession during AM peak as everyone is heading to school and to work.
I think nationalising is good in some sense. But then the govt can't build proper bus int today, how to trust they can run it day to day well? Furthermore those who owned SBS shares since 1978 (those in their 50s), their share value will all be wiped out. No more money savings for retirement.
Furthermore, distance fare has reduced fare expenses for quite a chunk of people.

Assitant driver on the whole day I think, they did not say it that clear. And off peak fare for everyone.

Hard la. cos there's MOM law on max weekly working hrs as well.
Actually off peak hr the yield are rather low cos buses for most bus svs less the neighbourhood/ feeder svs, the loading factor are usually 30%.

I think LTA should introduce adult consession pass instead of SBS Monthly pass.

We can have.
But distance fare will make it less attractive to those long dist travellers

I'm not in favor with merging SBST and SMRT but I will welcome SBST taking over all the bus operations and SMRT to take over all the rail operations. There is still need for different modes of transport to compete with each other to provide more choices and improved services for each mode.
Merging them together means that bus lines will have the danger to be axed since all in one ccompany to reduce losses and duplications and commuters will be forced to squeeze in trains and commuters do not have much choices in other transport modes. Rails will also become more ineffiecient due too much overcrowding. But it will be good enough for one company for one transport mode since the market in Singapore is so small. So I am in favor with SBST taking over all the bus operations and SMRT to take over all the rail operations
if they're together under e right mgmt then it's ok

Problem is no right mangement lasts forever, especially effiency and profits comes under pressure to increase.
Better if two conflicting interests continue to compete each other, it will continue to bring efficiencies through improvements to outdo each other. The communters are the ones who benefits. Of course, they have to continue to look into profits and efficiency but not the expense of quality.

prob is yield
Tuas Extn for example, SMRT stands to get diluted yield while SBS can cut down on e unprofitable off peak svs
I could rather have this situation happen instead:

You mean the PAP candidates show up?
And just because PAP are richer and distribute more leaflets doesnt mean they are more willing to serve.

- SBS Transit to sell its rail operations to SMRT
- SMRT to hive off bus and taxi operations into separate company, maybe naming it back to Trans-Island in acknowledgement of its roots
- Give SMRT more freedom to operate its rail business: allow it to buy their own trains, decide which signaling system to use for each line, the design and layout of stations current and future, give suggestions as to the alignment of future MRT lines, and to have a jointly-owned property unit with a property developer to operate their retail business
- Allow a third bus operator to enter the market; assist the new bus company in procurement of new buses and fare equipment, and allow them to run one or two bus routes at first. Give the company loans and have them repay only when the revenues and profits start rolling in
- Delist the public transport companies from the stock exchange. Public transport companies will not be allowed to list on the exchange; however, their parent or subsidary companies can still list on the exchange, provided that they are not in the public transportation business as well
- Have the public transport companies do a detailed financial report detailing the cost of purchasing new equipment and maintaining current ones, the profits earned, and a detailed plan as to how profits earned will be reinvested in the coming financial year. Maybe make it mandatory that public transport companies reinvest at least a certain portion (let's say 65%) of their profits every year into maintaining transit equipment and to retrain, retain, and hire new employees
2nd point makes no difference as it is still under the same management and thus the inefficiency of operations still continues. Just sell the bus operations back to SBST and probably the cab operations to Transcab.
I have thought of setting up a 3rd bus operator in the past. However, based on the market share bus operations are having now, it might be better to have one operator will do. The bus market is small in Singapore and having too many operators will result in the market share too small for each operator and in the long term, recurring losses/with little profits, because of small scale operations for each operator. In the end, some players will just leave the market becuase market is too small to survive.

I doubt that future rail projects can handle the growth of population in future. There is still need of buses to bring the masses and to reduce the loads from rails. Moreover buses are more flexible to plan and schedule and Singapore can't just build rail everywhere in future once there are too many infrastructure underground and consider the soil structures that can hold the weight of structures above ground. The share market might become smaller but still viable if there is a single operator to serve.

Thing is, $33bn SMRT can pay.. 30 yr BOT...
actually good, responsible for wat sv level you provide. Everything is your's, your pride.
bef anything goes on.
Say SBS's 1100 KUB, 300 Citaro each at $350k for simple cal, 450 B9TL @ $520k.
It cost $724m. Say it takes 10 yrs to finance it, it cost $198,400 per day excl interest.
If avg fare is 80c, riders expected to cover for it is abt 248,000.
Tat's just e bus itself

They certainly dint say assistant driver on trains and buses, they had meant co-driver in the government.

that is a very microscopic view you have. Just because they dont visit you, you dont vote for them. If PAP dont visit you then you might as well spoil your vote if that's the case?
Instead of them visiting you why not you try to reach out to them instead? Find out about their walkabout details or their rallies. Even if its not your own area's rallies you can visit them at Kallang Ave tml (unless u are in Moulmein-Kallang).
If you think covering 150 blocks in your area is easy, think again. and if you manage to finish that in 9 days, that would be crazily impossible. Dont forget they still have rallies to attend and give speeches, prepare them and other misc work which the media doesnt cover.

Really? Oh, cause the news report put the three point together, so I thought that it's all base on public transport.

Were u at home 24 hours a day?
They could have visited your house, but you were not at home!

1 company = No competiton = Service SLACK
seriously public tpt is not worth their time to talk of right now
The implementation of distance fare has improved & reduced those long haul transfer mode traveller's expenses
