Not everyone is familiar with bus stop numbers but more familiar with service numbers they frequently take..

Not really. I find it much easier when i am at a bus stop to punch in the bus stop number and get the arrival details. This function is omitted and its really quite annoying when it takes more than a minute to simply wait for a GPS lock and getting the nearest bus stop and click on it. I think most of us using the app do, too.
Depends on individual.
But most people will ask when is their bus service coming by punching in the bus service only, not remembering the bus stop number to know when their bus service will come.

Seems to be missing the point there, if you are already at a bus stop (be it that you alighted there for xfer or some random stop that u never been to) then easily u can look at the bus stop number. Why would you even need to remember it?
By punching in the bus service number, i still need to scroll through the whole list of stops and the other direction to look for the current stop which is much difficult to do. GPS can assist by limiting the range of stops, but it takes awhile to load.

Actually no need to memorise the bus stop number. Can use the map as a reference.
