Seriously speaking, e SBS single decks cost $350k and you get stepless + wheelchair accessible.
$200k, 1 China bus (dunno easy to find maintenance spare parts or notch), compare w/ Coaster.
I've ever calculated before, in the long term, using either buses dun cost much in diff. It's fuel consumption, maintenance that's e biggest cost factor.
May i look at some of your calculations? Fuel consumption wise, how do you know its higher? Afterall manual transmission vehicles tend to save more fuel than automatic transmission vehicles. And also regarding this point, without the auto trans, a large portion of maintenance cost is eliminated.

Hmm,Its a hint that blardy SMRT Buses should wake up from sleep..Already CW operates from Jurong East.I wont be surprised if they wanna start from SBW to Larkin next

dun forget, auto transmission can overcome steep inclines better than manual (gear changing issue). As in esp it's routes like in NUS, NTU or like Toh Tuck.
Furthermore, with our traffic condition there's a tendency to drag gears - another fuel costly problem.
The maintenance cost is using PRC buses availability of spare parts. When they're not that common in the region, if you do want e proper parts, it's going to be costly.

There's only to be 4 from SG, 4 from MY operators
SG side is left w/ CBD - Kota Raya (taken by 1 pte operator).
MY side is Larkin - MBS, Larkin - RWS, Kota Raya - Boon Lay, Kota Raya - MBS.
The jialat part is TS1 & TS8 are still more of niche svs in ridership i.e. ~ 300 pax per day compared to 170 or 950.

But the point here is, is there a steep incline to overcome? The gear change issue depends on the driver and how skilled he is to shift into the respective gear when climbing up slope, or down slope. A automatic transmission simply makes the life of the driver easier, but at a cost of fuel efficiency.
Also, if thats the case why hasen't many of the private bus operators switched all their new vehicles to auto transmission if your claim that manual will sip more fuel in our traffic condition in singapore? The minivans, lorries, trucks. etc?
I would also like to bring your attention to the yutongs that advance coach are using, and what spare parts are you talking about? The engines are cummins powered, and how is that not common in the region? What other proper spare parts do you need other than the engine and the transmission that is rare to obtain?
Its often nice to do justice by backing your statements with figures, not just words.

If you end up w/ this prob of gear dragging which is of an human issues, esp for public buses they wun want it. Thousands of buses having issues of gear dragging. You can train them not to drag gear but is it going to help?
Manual ppl will still buy because of the impulse cost issue. Do ppl really bother long term cost?
As for lorries, they need the torque esp carrying close to max load. In this case it's diff to operating buses on the need for smoother rides.
Yutong may be a special case, but for the other PRC buses?
looks like citybus spec. tomorrow paint with SMRT colour also can use immediately.
it park at the former "EB88" lot.. it seems tat only 2 lot for AC7..
they using S plated buses..
the taxes and COE and diesell sure make their squeeeze margins

only CW good life
CW3 $4 bus fare.. Toll only how much? Diesel subsidised, road tax cheap. Dun nid to spend $$ on farecard system. No nid to schedule.
Only thing inefficient. Off peak CW1 can go w/ 1 min freq bo lang to and fro
To Ang Mo Kio
170X - MRT
$1.01 + $0.74 = $1.75
950 - MRT
$1.01 + $0.69 = $1.70
AC7 - MRT
$0.84 + $1.15 = $1.99
CW1 - MRT
$0.38 + $1.57 = $1.95
Reported in today's ST that the demand isn't that good in the weekends.
Hope they advertise more for this service. Seems to be a better alternative to 950.
they should not duplicate 950 at woodlands avenue 3, but should stick to along woodlands ave 7 up to woodlands square, then express to checkpoint. reducing running time further will help especially when their headway seems to be adversely affected by the causeway jams.
Ridership KO
Weekend 100 ppl nia. Ytd saw bus lambat, off peak hrs somemore

That is only a start of their business for the first few weeks. Maybe the ridership will increase after some time. This will be a good replacement for 950 if they can managed it well.

Sv 950 is really..
AM peak direction freq 17 mins. During PM peak or even off peak (certain time belt), boarding at Marsiling is a dream
The drivers havent adapt to JB type of jams unlike 160/170/950 drivers,After several months i'm pretty sure they can make it.People got mindset only SBST & SMRT cover insurance if any accident occured unlike private buses. My friend's mum also say take this AC7 if accident got full coverage or not?
Vicamour:Dun be so biased lah for God Sake,We'll ardy knew that you dislike SMRT but again this is bus forums.I'm pretty sure that bus life here is dull if only SBST is the only player and Singaporean is demanding at times.
Agree. We shld be more open. Both SBST/SMRT are equal n part of the local bus market.

Since SMRT is so interested in providing premium services, then let them take over all the premium services. They can use the buses for morning peak premiums, then afternoon for shuttle buses like to IKEA and RWS, and at night the Night Riders.
No need to provide basic services since they are not interested and their main core is rail. Let SBST take on all the basic services. In the mean time, just wait for a 3rd operator that is as good as SBST and TIBS to complement some of SBST basic routes. People are forced to take public transport and forced to face fare increases every year, but not to forced to accept sub standard services with no obvious reasonings.
Anyway, Singapore bus share market is so small, if it is gonna shrink in future, then no one will wants to take them since this is a money losing business and shrinking the market share just result in losing more money. I can't imagine how LTA is going to shrink the market in future, i.e. cutting up routes, further shorting and even withdrawal after that.
