Sembawang is a fast growing town yet there is little bus services
The only services I see is:
858, 962, 980, 859, 882, 167, 981
dont count 859A
If you say the reason is because it is a new town, then look at punggol....
Comments?

Punggol Rd connects Punggol to Sengkang & Hougang, so it has the same population as Sembawang.
Because its as ulu as simei. In your entire human life, how many times would you have mentioned the word "simei"?
Agreed. Sembawang area has lack of bus services all these while. Ever heard of services 852 and 857 planning to extend to Sembawang int from Yishun way back in 2007, but then?
Services 167 and 980 doesn't really serve much difference as their routes run parallel from Sembawang Road to Novena MRT. The rest are only short haul routes.
Feel that SMRT needs more improvements in Sembawang areas, compared to Sengkang and Punggol which SBST did enhance the bus routes in order to have more connectivity to other areas.
The only thing that SMRT did was to divert service 858 to ply along Sembawang. Feel that either services 965 or 969 should also be diverted to ply along Sembawang too.

At least SBST did put in alot of efforts to improve Punggol's network, unlike Sembawang which is by SMRT. For example:-

- Service 3 extended from Pasir Ris to Punggol via TPE and Punggol Field.
- Service 62 extended from Hougang South to Punggol via Sengkang East Drive and Punggol Field.
- New service 34 to Changi Airport via TPE, Tampines 5 and 2.
- New service 43 to Upper East Coast via Serangoon, Upp Paya Lebar, Tanjong Katong and Marine Parade.
- New service 85 to Yishun via Sengkang East/West, Jln Kayu and TPE.
I know all this.
because sinicker doesn't go Sembawang. hence.
It is logical that Sembawang doesn't get as much services. Why? First thing it's not as large as Yishun or Woodlands. The way Sembawang services is planned is to provide connectivity to nearby "hubs" - Yishun and Woodlands as well as basic connections to town (167, 980) and to the East direct (858). Why it's obvious? First two services to really ply within Sembawang town are 859 and 962. I prefer taking MRT to the West as it's really much faster compared to taking buses.
As a resident there, I'm ok with the connectivities. However, I must say bus frequencies as well as the condition of buses have large rooms for improvement. At least now I feel there's slight improvement in day time frequency of 858.
Well i feel that they should create a feeder service within sembawang. it has none now
Cos SMRT mah. Look at Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang.
Only service 989 was introduced after takeover, but later cut short and merged with 185 to form current 985.
No new services since takeover from SBS. 925 and 927 were already in Choa Chu Kang before takeover.
Bukit Panjang is a luckier one, with 960 and 700 introduced from Woodlands to passby Bukit Panjang when Bukit Panjang was under SBS... to snatch some of SBS business.... and then later on Service 175 cutshot to terminate at Bukit Panjang as 975, 966 being pulled away from BKE express to serve Bukit Panjang.
The only real new service was Express 521 from Bukit Panjang to Harbourfront, which was later extended to terminate as 963 and withdrawn and also Service 345, from Bukit Panjang Terminal to Saujana Road, which was later axed.
Service 920, 922, 970 (with traces of former service 5) are the resultant services introduced to curb rising complains on the lack of bus services.
I just hope smrt will like introduce some more new service in sembawang. Some service that goes to the west side.

it was also probably thanks to the MRT rationalism in 2003...when the NEL opened, thats why the bus network around that area also improve...

there is 859...which is really some sort of feeder in sembawang already since it goes to almost every area in sembawang....
Email to SMRT and reply:
Thank you for your feedback.
Â
We have highlighted your concerns to the relevant department and wish to
explain that services will be introduced in tandem with the growth of
the town. The number of services provided to serve Sembawang Town has
exceeded the service provision standards stipulated under the Quality of
Service (QoS) laid down by LTA.
Â
In Mar this year, we extended Service 858 to serve Sembawang.
Â
As such, we are sorry to inform you that we do not have immediate plans
to introduce more services to serve Sembawang.
Â
Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor the developments of the town
and introduce services in tandem with the developments.
Â
Â
Yours sincerely
Maybe should ask SBST to come and if you ask me, the excuse is @#$%
If SBST can strive to make punggol better, why not SMRT?
Doubt sbst would go. cos really no business.
One bad thing about Sembawang is that MRT seems to be the only way people want to travel with. From Jurong East Stations down to City Hall, MRT seems to be a faster way out.
Probably extending 854 would be a good move, in my opinion, so that it connects them with the East and probably 965 can be amended to touch Sembawang as well.
I am not sure if SMRT is willing to introduce a service from Sembawang to Boon Lay though. Probably extending 172 from Choa Chu Kang Int.
And also in my opinion, there is a need to redraw routes 859 and 962. I find the services do not seem to go anywhere... the loading is horrible for both services. Keeps stopping and takes every long to reach the next stop.
Actually minimum is met le.
1 sv for every 3500 units.
So SMRT can be said has met min requirement.. Tat said, e connectivity or even bus - bus is not very good as yet.

should extend a route from Woodlands instead. the Sembawang-Yishun connectivity is already present with 856 859 858

187 bah
sembawang is operated by SMRT... like the other SMRT's new town, woodlands, is like the infamous hub-and-spoke system.. everyone all must take MRT except a few long haul trunk services and those to yis/ wdl
seriously, any sane person takes 167/980 all the way to town? and whats with the parallel route..
i think its more of the operator problem.. and also location.
furthermore.. sembawang is really inaccessible. only woodlands and yishun next to it. ever noticed its not really connected to these 2 towns? u need to past by big empty fields or industrial estates to reach yishun/woodlands, like an island.

I think if 39 or 85 is extended will have good business.

Agreed that location plays a part.
I take 167 and 980 to town at selected timings. It's only 5 or 10 mins slower than MRT.
