just experienced 1 episode at Bt Timah...
many car drivers these days simply want to rush, dun give way to buses although there's indeed a hazard tat's obstructed by e bus itself.
even some bus fans here thinking ADD view = bendies.

Neither do u have proof the bus driver was slow.
I am purely speculating.
Not a crime to do that here yah.
if the bus is travelling fast, the whole roof should already collapse.
can do some simple maths... 20km/hr = 20000m/hr = 333m/min = 5.555m/sec. so the bus will travel around 5.555m/sec if travelling at 20km/hr.. normal reactive time is around 0.8sec.. so by the time the BC heard the sound and slam the brake, bus will have travel 4.4444m at least, and by the time the bus stop, it will have travel another 5.5555m (let say it can stop in 1 sec)... i would believe that the Bus is travelling at 15km/hr... which is consider as ROAD hogging? How can this be fast?

if based on jgho83 view, think will cause big traffic jam... imagine the bus see the lorry infront cutting tree, so it stop and try to filter to 2nd lane, wait for 30 sec before finally some one let the BC filter, then as jgho83 mention to keep one lane clear, so the bus MUST STOP and then try to filter to the right lane? is this possilbe? dun think so... then after filter to the right lane, must slowly filter back to 2nd lane and then 1st lane to stop at bus stop? how long will it take?
gif way to bus for waad? dey think dey big ah? some bus driver think tat though driving big shit think very big ah.. i dun gif way to bus. anyway the bus driver 2nd lane cum lan ah.. since wen bus 2nd lane, driving rushing la.. obviously. a life lost big deal? nothing special to me, anyway less a malay doesnt make any difference,

funny, i didnt say that.

think they big? Can they brake in time as your car? Also they need more space being 2.55m width compared to 1.4m for a typical saloon car, so when they filter they need more space.
I also drive but I always give way to buses as far as I can.. simply those taking buses their travelling time is alrdy long enough and I take buses to commute most of e time.
Rushing? If the attempted filtering bus is alrdy blocking your view of e hazard, shouldn't you slow down? if it turns out to be a trailer turning out, wouldn't you get killed by your speeding n refusal to give way to bus finally owning yourself w/ a head - head accident?
not only tat, those passengers standing all trip and fall because of your selfish remark because of the braking to avoid hitting your speeding car.
It's obvious from here many singaporeans should be made 1 day tasked to take and standing onboard a public bus and made to taste ppl refusal to give way + heavy braking to siam.
yet you say sad a life is lost.
Next thing, stop posting racist remarks before something happens.
U know the whole thing was suppose to be a thread where people are free to voice their opinion.
You dont agree with me; u put your points across. Fine.
I dont agree with you, I put mine across. Accept it.
Dont start to make it hostile/inaccurate and say things like:
1. "so in your little fantasy world"
2. Deriving some speed limit (1kmh, 5kmh, 30kmh or whatever) and put it into my mouth. All the time i only use the word "go slower or slow down"
3. Asking me not to accuse the driver (whether fast or slow) when yourself are defending the driver. Hey its just a discussion. If u dun wan me to accuse, u dun defend anyone too.

No one is defending anyone.
But simply it's because it's alrdy clear there's govt regulation over tree pruning, blind spots on the bus driver driving double decker buses, e way how the crane hit the bus.
I'll say tis, compared to Malaysian drivers (yes they could be less 'disciplined') but they're better than Singaporeans onto defensive driving when approached by heavy vehicles. They understand the hazards posed by heavy lorry n buses vs Singaporeans.
The amdep fire shouldnt happen in the first place.
amdep fire -> investigation period -> need to have more transparency at depot -> cut away all the shrubs that line the fencing of the depot -> shrubs = plants = trees -> payback for cutting away the 20 year shrubs at amdep -> 174 @ Bt Timah + 166 @ Buona Vista Flyover + 87 @ Bedok North.
Combine the shrub problem and the recent rain spells will also get (174 @ Bt Timah + 166 @ Buona Vista Flyover + 87 @ Bedok North).
ka boom!
logic is flawed but at least it makes sense.

freedom of speech does not equate you're allow to not take responsibility for your words. hostility is very subjective. as for inaccuracy, i think you might want to provide some answers to our queries to make things a little more "accurate", like putting a number to how slow should the speed limit be to make it safe for every motorist, and explaining how you are able to know that the driver was travelling at an unsafe speed.
1. that's because many of us here feels you're not being in touch with reality, no matter how much you assert yourself to be.
2. go slower... how slow is slow? don't try to brush it off. we want to know how sensible you are. not even the traffic police will tell you how slow you should go near a stationary vehicle.
3. you have alleged that the driver was not going slow enough and could have gone slower. now, isn't the driver going to take a defence against your accusation? if you don't want us to put up a defence on how sensible is sensible, then don't accuse others of not being sensible enough to judge how slow he should drive.
to people who have a brain, ignore jgho83, he just wants to start an argument with no meaning to it. he feels bus fans side the bus company. but if you observed what has occurred judging from the photo, a reasonable person would be able to spot that the first window on the upper deck is in tact so the crane's arm pierced into the bus only after the second window. the crane was swinging out into the middle lane while the bus was passing by, as it is a side swipe after the front of the bus has passed it is clear the crane was responsible. secondly, this bus is 12metres long, the accident occured only after 2 metres of the bus had past the crane. reaction time of about a second and immediate application of brakes would tell a reasonable person to know that the bus would have moved forward by a few metres. upon photos at stationary postion showed the bus stopped about a metre or 2 before the rear of the bus. meaning the bus stopped around 8 metres after the accident. the bus would have been travelling at about 20km/h, about 5.55m/sec including reaction time and braking which is the speed of a Sentosa Beach Tram hahaha.
so yeah, the Bus Captain was not speeding and reacted quickly. it just couldn't be avoided on the hand of the bus. do note that there would be traffic on the outer lane as well. a reasonable person would know that when buses overtake, it keep to the leftmost possible lane. cars would horn if a bus kept on outer right lane. furthermore, it was fine when the bus passed it, only after 2 metres did the crane pierce into the bus.
case closed. (:

common sense is not common nowadays.
we don't have to rebutt childish and shallow comments from people who do not face up to the actual reality of the incident. puts on a front against people cos bus enthusiasts only side on the party of the Bus Captain which is irrelevant to the situation. we may be bus enthusiasts but we are impartial.

if read the 1st page of this thread, you will know that certain bus enthusiast does not side on the party of BC or bus company...

they dun know of a thing called defensive driving.
The Sv 52 incident is kena owned, obviously many dun even take public tpt these days.
to think of ppl kpkb tat buses are always stucked in jams when they could travel faster on the middle lane on expressways i.e. Sv 5, 59, 506 case along PIE (Changi) in the evening as left lane is clogged w/ vehicles criss-cross CTE (SLE) & KPE (ECP/ TPE)/ Kallang Way exits/ entrance.

This is because of certain bias that has set in with regards to the particular company being involved in the accident which made certain bus enthu to have baised view about this accident that had happened.
Its like the judge giving out sentence without even going through the evidences.

We too have the right to voice out our opinion with regards to the accident involved.

Just because they are car owners themselves, they feel that they own the roads.

partly yes.
but e spine chilling part is lack of awareness of safety over dealing w/ heavy vehicles.
actually if you look at some of the taller BCs driving the LO3x, VO3x, there's no way he can even have a inclined vision from his seat.

very true.
this means that it was a case of the crane smashing into the bus, and not the bus smashing into the crane.
Can we just shut up for a moment (sorry if i used the wrong word) and pray for the safety of those who are injured/affected by the accident and pray for the safety of the departed soul who was killed in this tragic accident?
