But sometimes its not just about economic costs. If everything in this world is based on economic cost alone, there would be very little research and development on new technologies.
The higer is more of a technology demonstration platform for sbstransit and ntu, and it cant be compared to the MAN demo which is something available commercially or on large scale production.
One bus wouldnt affect the losses much. What matters is the whole fleet, for eg sbstransit makes a wrong judgment or economical decision on a choice of bus. A simple 5% of additional fuel burn on the MAN over Citaros would be a large sum if u consider a fleet of 300 vehicles.
354 the road end not easy to u-turn wor....

The positive publicity it gets from the public pays more than enough for that one bus. 179 is a very high visibility route carrying full of youngsters.
And NTU has a say in the bus, otherwise why do you think it's being chained to 179/179A/199?
Nobody other than bus fans will even bother to take a second look at the MAN demo.

For every km it travels, how much is SBST going to lose just to purchase hydrogen fuel alone? Maybe diesel-electric bus is the better option.
That's where govt intervention in the free market is crucial.
So is the NTU electric bus out on service yet???
Any pictures???
What bodywork is this bus using?

Higer integral bodywork

Most likely SBS Transit found out that it is not economical to run the bus, so most likely they might just scrap the plan. Oh well, it's a China made bus anyway, so not really looking forward to it.
Anyway, I doubt the bus will be out anytime soon even SBS Transit wants to test it.
When this bus is gonna be on revenue svc??? Or SBST just leaving the bus to rot in the depot???

Well... its not exactly at the depot. Somewhere in NTU.

1 refuel = $300
1 refuel = 100km
U can do the maths.

$3 per 1 km

The range is actually 300 to 400km. But a full refill can cost easily 1k, which makes it pretty expensive to operate this vehicle.
But then again, if u consider this on another view point, 1 trip of 179 is 10km. $30 per trip is easily recoverable with pax volume on 179 even on this vehicle alone. I do not count in the price of the vehicle, because its already bought! Maintenance, on the other hand, may cost money, but u still have to maintain it if u leave it there to rot, probably less frequently.
So price of fuel should not be the reason why the vehicle is still not in revenue service, believe its something else. Fuel is readily available too (Singapore one of the world's largest hydrogen producers, well because its also a byproduct of petroleum refining).

Yea hope so :P
Maybe they scared later the bus explode...like the King Long CNG...that's why they never use. Whatever their claims may be, I don't trust the safety of these China made vehicles.

But the yutong seems fine so far
Still sleeping peacefully inside the holding area.
For those who are curious, the holding area is opposite School of Biomedical Sciences within the NTU campus.

I think he meant those hybrid/CNG China made buses, not normal ones. Anyway I missed SMB135E, hope to see it back in service again like SBS8031J on 6.
Cheers.
