Yishun MRT >>> Commonwealth MRT >>> NUS
Current: $1.81
Future:
MRT (same) $1.62 + $0.71 (4 stages X 0.8km=3.2km) = $2.33
You will need to pay $0.52 extra per day.

there's alrdy no more transfer rebate and it's thru fares
So if 190 - 153 is 12 + 5.5 = 17.5. Roughly it's 14km.
Hence new fare is $1.41 - $1.45
I see. So means.... If you have LRT nearby. Please walk to take 920 or 922. If not, you pay more? Since MRT has its own way of calculation?

In a sense yes
Tat's why those who would continue bus - MRT - bus, probably SMRT will end up biggest winner.
More good years to come

But seems like in their catalogue, feeder bus services are capped at a single fare band?
Means it operates differently?
OH MY! Zzzz...
Feeder Bus >>> MRT >>> Trunk Bus
wins all. LOL....

Feeder fare also kena reduced.
This is definitely another type of fare increase...

I absolutely agree. Currently it takes 88¢ (1 transfer) from my home to my workpalce. With the new fares, it's likely going to cost $1.01. Which is like !!! % increase. Wth. Besides, they are segregating all the transportation modes into so many categories (Bus, Rail, etc) and each category's cheapest fare is 71¢ (which is ex), and now there are no transfer rebates?!
this is more like discouraging people to take public transport when the transfer rebate is abolished by then.
Actually such fares only benefit buses nia
this is a bloody mess.
Press releases
After the change, will there still be a 'fare stage'?
Hi everyone,
I think you guys have gotten the wrong idea with regards to fares involving a combination of different modes. As has been mentioned earlier the rationale of distance fares is to allow a single fare to be charged regardless of mode, hence, the calculations above regarding bus-train-bus transfers should not be the case.
Please read this: http://www.publictransport.sg/publish/ptp/en/distance_based_fares.html
The official example given here clearly shows that jouneys involving a combination of differnt modes (bus & train) will also be subjected to one single fare: http://www.publictransport.sg/publish/etc/medialib/distance_fares.Par.72899.File.dat/JourneyExample2.2.jpg
The complication arises when the journey involves a combination of NEL/CCL trains, non-aircon buses or Express/Fast Forward buses. As has been noted by service_238, Express/Fast Forward buses will incur a flat premium of 60 cents (adult) while NEL/CCL trains incur a premium of between 5 to 25 cents. My guess is that for such journeys, the same kilometre calculation for the whole journey will be used with the respective premiums imposed on that particular journey segment.
The best way is to wait for the calculation tools to be made available on publictransport.sg, which will happen by mid-June.

http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/press/2010-04-20-01-S.aspxAfter the change, will there still be a 'fare stage'?
No more fare stage. It will become a concept of DRF (Distance Related Fare). Thats why you see only bus numbers without fare stages on the new bus stop poles
On top of that, TIBS was the first bus company to be charged under OMO-DRF, charging fares from 40c to 80c.
It is mentioned that "Under Distance Fares, the transfer penalty will be removed completely" and hence transfer rebates will also cease.
So, does that mean that if we were to transfer from trunk > feeder, we have to pay the minimum fare ($0.71) for that feeder ride, even though both are bus rides except that it is of different category - a trunk and a feeder?
If yes, then isn't the $0.71 for the feeder a transfer penalty?? Currently paying only $0.19 for a transfered feeder ride, and under the new structure $0.71. What a $0.52 increase!!
So, doesn't this mean a big disadvantaged for those who are staying in an area with no trunk service nearby or no MRT station nearby in order to get out of their estate.

they go by nearest distance from point A to B or distance travelled by the bus/train?
quite a few buses take long routes and waste time/distance de. similarly transferring by bus to train may be further than taking bus alone if count by distance travelled
SMB 136C, depending on the total mileage you travel, it should be computed as one single journey. Thus, you should combine the distance covered by the two services and check the total distance against the new fare table.
Ngyk. using the maximum approved fares by PTC at http://www.ptc.gov.sg/statistics_max.asp, I can only guess that your journey from Yishun - Commonwealth is between 23.6 to 26 km. The journey on Service 198 from Commonwealth Station to ITE Dover is 4 stages which I assume is 4 x 0.8 = 3.2 km (this is a very very crude estimation).
The total mileage of your journey will then be between 26.8km to 29.2km, which will correspond to fares of between $1.80 - $1.82.
The reason I can do this is because EWL/NSL fares and aircon bus fares are on the same basis. If an NEL/CCL ride is involved then an a differential of between 5 - 25 cents should be factored in; similarly if an Express/Fast Forward ride is involved, a premium of 60 cents should be added.
This is a very crude estimation; the most accurate way is to wait for the query functions to be made available on publictransport.sg in mid-June.
I give you an example
Let's say you are an insane person living at Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 ... You want to go to Raffles Place and stand there dancing to "Nobody"
For some unknown reason, you take 88 to Ang Mo Kio Hub, then 132 to Scotts Rd, then 162 to Collyer Quay. The current fare system would be calculated as:
BUS 88 ANG MO KIO AVE 10 -> ANG MO KIO AVE 3
BUS 132 ANG MO KIO AVE 3 -> SCOTTS RD (-50 cents transfer rebate)
BUS 162 SCOTTS RD -> COLLYER QUAY (-50 cents transfer rebate)
Under the new fare system, the fare would be calculated in this way
BUS ANG MO KIO AVE 10 -> COLLYER QUAY via bus 88, 132, 162
as if it were done using ONE single bus ride.
Hence there is no need for the transfer rebate anymore.
sv966, thanks for clarifying.
Anyway, spotted a mistake in the Thomson Plaza to Collyer Quay example. Haha..bus 124 and 125 doesn't serve Upper Thomson Road!!
And not sure about this though..the fare for direct 162 bus, if we are to calculate using fare stage method, the distance from Thomson Plaza to Collyer Quay is 13.5 fare stage. (So, 13.5 x 0.8 = 10.8 km). 10.8 km, so, shouldn't it be $1.29 instead of $1.33?? If that's the case then isn't it no difference in whether we take a direct bus or a trip that involves transfer??

That's why the 0.8 is only a very crude measure; alternatively we can go google maps to plot the route ourselves or wait for them to publish new route details with mileage markers instead of fare stages!

Haha... PTC ownself also confused? LOL....
According to Mediacorp news... seems like... They use distance... regardless of whether you are taking MRT/LRT/Bus.
The basic is one time off. Plus the extra distance. Probably it has got to do with, whether you start with a bus or MRT?
Probably its challenging to find out the exact fare for now.
from what i understand, distance is cumulative in a valid journey and you only need to pay the "base fare" once even if you transfer from trunk/feeder to MRT to trunk/feeder...
YAY!! My 52 ride from Seventh Day Adventist Church to SIM is going to cost 4 cents more per trip!! ($1.11 to $1.15 estimated)
My current MRT ride from JUR to CLE is 80 cents, transfer to bus is another 19 cents. So, when the new ruling comes in, i gotta pay 71 cents plus whatever the fare SMRT will charge me?!?!?

approximately 24.8km+3.9km=28.7km. new fare $1.82.
