I think not going to work either.
some ppl rather take 151 at NP to Hougang citing it being faster than 74 during off peak.

Mitigate by building a bus stop at Lorong Halus so everyone can transfer to faster reach their destinations.
My opinion services that are considered too long by them.

sometimes they've to consider where they're going to terminate e buses.
Seriously I wondering if the CCL can handle the crowd when phase 4 and 5 start. Definitely not if SBST decides to remove all services from BV to NUH, NUS, One-North, Science Parks. And why would SBST let go of those monies-making bus services to SMRT? Why won't LTA just let SMRT and SBST to fight each other?
Perhaps we may just let SMRT runs the train services and SBST runs the bus services. Let them decide what's best for commuters. Definitely there are people who prefer buses over train.

151 and 74 serves different parts of Hougang. Of course, from NP to Hougang Interchange, 151 will definitely be faster.
Anyway, even after services got chopped, there might be chances that the old days might return again as long as your constituency MPs got do work diligently. Well, that's what we voted them for.
Originally posted by vicamour:In the end, the cycle goes back again. People would rather drive their own private transport as they have to do more transfers, pay more fares and have to squeeze more in the stupid overcrowding trains.
Public transport is supposed to serve the public, not the agenda for certain group of people. Guess the kind of selfish comment of changing mindsets will, like said earlier, deter more from taking public transport because of all these kind of dumb ideas.
Agreed. A transfer-based public transport system is far from desirable, especially when it ain't broken. Resources are not necessarily better allocated. While paid journey mileage might decrease with a mix-and-match route, time spent on waiting for transfers will increase travelling time. Infrastructure will need to be beefed up, like lots capacity at interchanges and terminals and bigger bus stops at major transfer stops, especially in the city area where land is prime.
Fleet requirement might also increase as a split-up route will overlap for certain sectors, especially if both sectors have comparable demand which reduces the efficiency of splitting the services up. Better reliability may also not be possible if a traffic slowdown occurs on the overlapped sector; instead we have more buses from both split services stuck in the jam! A good example is Service 143 between Jurong East and Toa Payoh, which plies through places of high traffic flow such as Orchard Road, Chinatown and HarbourFront vicinity.
Ironically, if the example of multiple routes to choose from when transferring to an high volume sector is cited, it will quickly be rationalised to "prevent duplication" while buses are more packed along the sector. Commuters stand to lose, while operators charging a higher fare under throughfare will not lose out, since revenue should remain, loss of transfer penalty must be recovered.
It just seemed that in the desire to maintain QoS standards for basic services, we have overcapacity issues on certain routes (fleet additions on services which already do not have capacity issues and will not be adversely affected by a delay of a minute or two in waiting time by increasing headway to 11 or 12 minutes) while desirable routes like inter-town, radial and express routes are not favoured when put against circuitous routes which should be relegated to feeder services as defined by a hub-and-spoke system.
It felt like the whole exercise is a change for the sake of changing, transfer for the sake of transferring, because they have to be seen as doing "something" when travel trends in the public transport system has more or less stabilised.
Suggestions - SMRT
61 - Eunos to Habourfront Int. Remaining route to be done by 989.
989 - Habourfront Int >>> Bukit Batok
67 -
Renumbered as 986 and 987.
Route 986 - Choa Chu Kang To Kitchener Road (Loop)
Route 987 - Tampines To Little India (Loop @ Sim Lim Square like Service 23)
963 - Route shortened.
Woodlands Int
Woodlands Ave 3
BKE
Bukit Panjang Road
Petir Road
Dairy Farm Road
Upper Bukit Timah Road
Clementi Road
AYE
Normal Service to Habourfront Interchange.
Those living along Hillview will have to take 176 and transfer to 61 at Bukit Batok Int, continuing their journey to Hillview or take 970 and transfer to 963 at Upper Bukit Timah Road.
188 will terminate at Clementi Interchange.
171 - Yishun Int >>> Upper Bukit Timah Road (Loop)
Remaining route warrants a transfer.
For Orchard, 77, 174.
For Bukit Timah stretch, 66, 67
961 -
Starts from Bukit Panjang Interchange. Remaining route warrants a transfer to 960.
985 -
Cut back to Toa Payoh Int. Existing route warrants a transfer to 26 or 31.
61 can be easily chopped in to 3. it's so long with 80+ stops that i never found out how long it will take to travel the entire distance. and i don't think anyone ever takes it from beginning to end.

oax from Ang Mo Kio how to go to NP and SP? pax from your 164 want to go to old 154 how to transfer? keep it at best to one more transfer. thanks.
and please refrain from making it a fantasy bus routes thread. try not to touch the split routes excessively, instead try to link them up with another service that has been split with comparable demand.
Service 147. Too long to get to Chinatown..
Service 145. From Buona Vista to Vivo..
Service 143! stop going around the teban gardens..
Service 502, delete the sector where it plys along Toh Guan. They are served by Service 105. Waste of time..
5N, it is the OMG service. Please cut down the i) Holland Rd, ii) Boon Lay Way(take PIE to Toh Guan instead), iii) Rounding at JW St 61 - Ave 4 - Ave 5 - St 91 (This is crazy) . Please operates 8N again!

very good suggestions! Sv 502 I think it's for historical reasons. now, if only out of PIE there's a right turn from Toh Guan Rd into Toh Guan Estate.
5N is a night route where coverage is more important than getting home at the fastest time.

Haha.. 51 will need to chop into 4 then. LOL..

yup. sorry just that if you start offering new route numbers, it's a different ball game. mentioning the current route number will be best.
Sv 147 might feel more "progressive" going into the city area from Clementi side? actually I also feel that the town area needs more terminals if this were to work out.
or we can be more radical. follow your idea of Sv 147 from Hougang to Bt Merah, Sv 198 takes over Sv 147 sector from Buona Vista to Bt Merah, and we can have a CT28 kind of service that goes straight from Clementi to Chinatown using expressways?
