I do not want that to happen. Let long route services remain.

mind translating the article for non-chinese readers?
A translation for the benefit of non chinese readers.
Long haul services to get shortened, with route adjustments.
According to LTA, of the 260 bus routes in Singapore, special bus routes (with a full route of 20km and above) comprises 10% of the 260 bus routes here, mainly services 10, 30, 51, 63, 143, 147, 196 etc.

they call 143 long? LOL!!!
It has been stated that most commuters wants the current routes to stay, so why break it when it is not broken? They are satisfied with the current bus routes and want more bus connections with poor links.
LTA should focus on building guided bus systems to make bus trips, be it long or short routes, faster and uninterupted by other road conditions and road users, instead of blaming bus routes too long and congestions on the roads. So where does all the money from charging higher fares and ERP charges for cabs and buses goes to?
Another dumb approach by the LTA again. Any more of these kind of ideas will deter more from taking public transport.

I STRONGLY AGREE with you. Many people are already having headaches transferring buses! Cut short see wad happen??
Take Sembawang for example. For people who wanna go airport they would have to take train towards Yishun then bus 858. But from tmr it would be better for them as svc 858 is diverted to serve these residents. DIRECT BUS! Although it would be a longer trip to the airport for ppl in Woodlands who wanna go airport, they should know that they benefit too because if they wanna go to Sembawang visit frens or blah blah blah, they need not take MRT then transfer bus. DIRECT BUS!
Now imagine wad will happen if route cut short. Using svc 963 as an example. Currently 963 goes frm Woodlands->HarbourFront via Bt Panjang and Bt Batok and AYE. If SMRT goes and cut short this service by making go to only to Bt Batok, ppl in Clementi/Normanton will be affected badly. They might have to go and take another bus before taking 188 or take MRT, which will take longer.
Thus, LTA's move in cutting short routes is simply making matters WORSE!
My Suggestion
10 Tampines to Shenton Way, Geylang Lor 1 to Kent Ridge
30 Bedok to Kent Ridge, Harbourfront to Boon Lay
51 Hougang to Bukit Merah, Geylang Lor 1 to Jurong East
63 Eunos to New Bridge Rd, Geylang Lor 1 to Rumah Tinggi
143 Toa Payoh to Harbourfront, New Bridge Rd to Jurong East
147 Hougang to New Bridge Rd, Queen Street to Clementi
196 Clementi to Geylang Lor 1, Bukit Merah to Bedok

Cutting these links will simply makes things worse, as you are cutting most of the links from the east to the west and vice versa. I don't think Singapore is so big that travelling for 20 km is considered long. Even for 143 I think the most it should be shortern to Clementi. 30 should skip the areas going to Corporation Road and proceed to Boon Lay Way and JTH road, and introduce a new feeder 244 instead to cover Corporation Road sectors, 51 should stop its circular route around Queensway, as for 63, it should go back to the usual route before its merge with 382 and re introduce feeder service 382 to Ubi industrial estate.
And cutting 147 and 196 will only make more commuters complain even more. Since 147 is still in high demand after spared from NEL rationalisation. 196 is the only fastest link for Marine Parade residents to Shenton Way, and Queensway, since axing CSS 608 has already brought a lot of inconvienience to the commuters.
And not to mention more transfers and higher fares.
They are forcing everyone onto the MRT by making the long routes more like Townlinks.
try chopping their heads lah. amend here, amend there. people happy, people angry. in the end, fare increase= more unhappy faces. Just leave it as how it is lahs
how many times do they want to amend these routes....after cutting they probably receive complaints they extend again....
I believe most of us may think that LTA is indeed splitting the long distance services into 2. I would rather fee that their intention was to 'shorten' the long distance bus services such that more people may be 'force' to take trains.
CCL will be fully up and running by 2011, they just want to feed more people into the trains.

10 ok, 30 excellent, 196 may duplicate 16 for bedok and bukit merah
Service 10 is very likely to be shortened after CCL 5 opened. Probably become Tampines - HarbourFront.
if these fucking companies want to shorten routes make combined concession cheaper first.
y didnt they say svc 14 ?????

Let put up a list of SBST and SMRT bus services with over 25 fare stages (1 fare stage is 0.8 km).

Who in Woodlands going to Sembawang would want to take MRT then transfer bus when they can take service 962 direct?

Now the Woodlanders have 2 choices, either 858 or 962.
I think e issue has gone wrong.
Some routes very easily gets to hit e 20km mark like Sv 10, 30, 97, 143, 154, 167, 170, 961. But where they travel? Pasir Panjang, AYE, Bt Timah, Upp Thomson which can easily clock mileage riao.
Another issue you can spilit e buses up, but can our terminal handle esp w/ e smaller integrated bus hubs?
