Runaway buses?

Has anyone seen operational buses with no number plates? Its super annoying! Basically they're like on the route and they do take passengers (only to a certain point on the route) but halfway through the bus driver'll stop and take off all the number plates so that people waiting at the bus stops don't know what bus it is so he'll just drive straight through the route. Caused me quite a few late appointments and unnecessary taxi dollars, that.
Shouldn't that be like terribly punishable?! Hmm.

They're usually given the authority by radio comms to return as soon as possible to the bus interchange due to them being exceptionally late, usually as a result of massive jams. Usually this is possible when the bus behind it is close to the bus ordered to return immediately.
Think of it this way, if he were to continue picking up passengers, the behind bus will catch up and you'll have 2 buses running as late as the bus behind anyway. And there will be no buses at the interchange for those queueing to board it.

^similar situation, except that they might be given comms to stop picking up service and drop off the remaining passengers until the last passenger alights - usually as a result of bus fault (air-con etc)

I gt kena once on svc 72 B9TL.
AC spoil at Tampines Rd towards Tamp Int, BC tells everyone that ac spoil, if communters wan ac, they can alight and take next bus.
Then BC fan pai to tamp int.

Got such thing happen on any of the SMRTB services before (by switching the EDS to off service)?
Anyway, TIB640K (on 187 duty PM10) was extremely late by 12 minutes. It was supposed to reach Nicon Gardens at around 3.40pm like that but it reached there at 3.52pm. Yet, it was still not 'off service' yet. Hence, ended up the back bus (TIB1161U) successfully overtook it at Block 347 Jurong East Stop.

There is no punishment because these actions are sanctioned by the higher-ups. This is to prevent late departures for the next trip, which may cause the entire timetable to cascade.

I kenna before but on 903 last time when the Checkpoint is still in heavy jams than now. The BC have 2 alternate routes.1) When reaching W'lands Centre, follow 856 and then 913 route to Marsiling Sec, then turn left into 178 route and straight back to 903 route.
2) Happen to me and my parents once that after BC let passengers down at Blk 203 bus stop, as only me and my parents onboard, so BC asked whether going to WRI, said "yes", so he went off service, drove straight to 178 route, then 913/178 route and back to WRI in just 5 mins.

For SMRT shouldn't be the case though, it will do down route after reaching the interchange for about half an hour, after the bus scheduled for the time has left for about 15 minutes or so

For what I know, when checkpoint is having traffic jam, I have to wait at Riverside Road Stop (towards WRI) for about 15 to 20 mins, or even 30mins for 903 to come when going home. So, ended up 2 buses will bunch up each other. -

i got mine on 197 vo3x, also AC spoil....and the bus just left bedok int...
