SMRT Service No 858 will be extended to serve 20 more bus stops within Sembawang Town from Sunday, bringing greater connectivity to residents along Woodlands Avenue 7, Sembawang Way, Canberra Road and Sembawang Road. The amended route will allow residents to connect to Sembawang MRT Station and medical facilities such as the new Khoo Teck Huat Hospital and Yishun Polyclinic along Yishun Central 2.
Took it just now, whole trip from WRI to CGA and back to WRI was about 3 hrs.
Sure kena cut based on LTA's latest rules...
Probably sv812/E become WAB?!
Last but not least... our SBST sv39,85 sure to divert to KTPH to serve Tampines, Pasir Ris, Sengkang, Punggol residents...
Took SV858 on its second day of route amendment from Jln Kayu to Sembawang Stn @ 1631hrs @ Jln Kayu and second time from Woodlands Regional Int to Yishun Ave 2 @ 1840 @ WRI
My overall observation is that Sembawang Residents is still not quite sure of the route amendment as spotted residents chatting over the SV858 route amendment. Demand for SV858 increases @ Yishun Stn towards SBW but still not many ppl alighted in SBW Area. Furthermore, for the trip towards CGA frm WRI, the demand usually come frm W'land area and not much frm SBW area. Boarding and alighting activity at SBW is almost zero. However, load at Yishun Ctrl 2 is average. But for a packed SV858 is almost difficut to carry the load at Yishun Ctrl 2.
With regards to the headway, (Based on Duty 858PM09) The trip took 2 hours and 40 min for off peak timing,
i.e: 1442 (WRI) > 1609 (CGA T2) > 1631 (Jln Kayu) > 1722 (WRI)
And of cos the frequency departing from WRI is excellent. So overall SMRT did quite a good job in improving the frequency. But hopefully they would do something to PM Off Peak Freq which is arnd 11-19 min per bus.

Not to forget, theres a special pair of new bus stops along Sembawang Way, no shelters, no concrete path, just grass patch like people waiting for taxis, waiting for 858.
Not sure if there are bus stop poles for that 2 bus stops or the svc plates are just placed onto the lamp-posts.
The shuttle bus boarding point at the bus interchange easily makes the Yishun hospital the one with the most inaccessible boarding point for the shuttle bus amongst all the other public hospitals (less TTSH, which is excellently built beside Novena MRT, hence negating the need for any shuttle bus service other than that to their offshoot NSC)
I do expect them to use bigger buses once the hospital starts full operation, unless they want to be another NUH, using 20 to 23 seaters which nobody can board until the queue stretches near the entrance (if you are at their main building). Luckily they spilt the route and now they use bigger buses for their A route.
Nonetheless, its sad to see AH going off in just a few years time, probably the hospital with the nicest environment.
