LAST week, I boarded service 198 from the bus stop opposite Jurong East Library at about 6pm. The number was SBS 7373 D. Shortly after I boarded, there was a continuous sharp beeping sound. The passengers obviously became worried, especially as the driver looked surprised and obviously did not know what was wrong.
The sound continued non-stop and the bus started to move slowly. As it was peak hour, the road was congested. The driver went on driving and was trying to figure out how to stop the sound.
After about 15 minutes, the bus went even slower and I heard the driver mumble in Mandarin: 'The bus seems faulty.' I was shocked that he did not seem to be sure if it was faulty. By this time, the passengers on the upper deck had come down to see what was happening. The driver stopped along the main road, near the bus stop opposite Block 114.
The driver did not explain what had happened nor did he help the passengers to alight from the bus. He just continued to sit inside the bus. Another bus approached behind, and its driver sounded his horn loudly.
A few questions struck me as a passenger.
- Are bus drivers fully trained how to handle faulty buses and at least assess what may have gone wrong?
- What if the beeping sound warned of a hazard and this driver's ignorance put the lives of passengers at risk?
- How could this driver act as if nothing had happened and not even bother to advise passengers to alight?

Isn't the sharp beeping sound the sound of the signal lights? =/
Continuous sharp beep = possible that upper deck emergency hammer is dislodged from holder.
I saw this once at Boon Keng MRT last year, a s147 B9TL, the beep was loud enough for me outside of the bus to hear it clearly, and is obviously uncomfortable for the occupants inside the bus. The driver rectified the problem by putting the hammer back in place.

Yup, hammer loosen..
Happened on a Euro 4 KUB of 243W last time. BC stopped the bus at bus stop, then placed the hammer properly.
i zhong before on 8693Z 156
nobody except me knew what the problem was. Yes, not even the bc.
And the only reason why I know about this is because I was on a sv2 B9 and heard it, the BC knew and went to put the hammer back.
The bugger or Miss Wee is exastuating too much, sounds like there is a bomb on the bus going to explode. K N N

the most common place for the hammer to be dislocated is the one at the standing area. Saw it a few times. Only once the pax kinda knew how to put it back in place.
i kena before on 8030L...at Orchard area somemore...can still remember that time the condition of that fella not as cui as now...
complain and complain.
even a car owner wont and cant know everything about his own car, let alone a bus captain.
is she complaining just because the driver is a mainland chinese?
