my personal observation. compared to hk, i feel singapore's buses pick up at a very slow pace. compared to hk which pick up quickly without compromising stability.
are they mecahnically restrained or some protocol in place to prevent drivers from accelerating quickly?
i know SBST put spped limiters on their buses...can be quite obvious especially for the B9s....nt sure if it has anth to do with the pickup

For me some buses really have slow acceleration , eg MK 3 , VO3X , LO3X , B9TL , UD. For some buses the acceleration is normal , eg. O405(SBST and SMRT) , OC500LE , K230UB (Euro 5).

second your views on the models. VO3X and LO3X are where you can see the problem especially clearly.
LO3x acceleration is slow? sure bo.. I think the VO3x batch 3 ba..

Try: 582M 9085Y/9159T/9178M. B9 slow??? first gear maybe. VO3x generally all quite slow. but of late 9614X has shown improvement through flooring from the likes of ivun chin and yew lam hui
VSO ftw
mechanically restrained or intentionally underpowered at the point of purchase. maybe some people believe there is no need for drivers to accelerate quickly when their maximum speed is 60km/h and the safe speed for a bus is not more than 50km/h.
if they can increase to 70km/h it will be shoik man and yeah for me the slowest buses of all is the B9TL and some vo3x maybe.. PLUS the invaded KUB... locked somemore leh zz
Not only limited to 60 their acceleration also kena de-tuned by Technician to prevent accident. What a crap reasons to save fuel.To be exact SBST buses only 25% can exceed 60kmh while SMRT is about 40%.I hate it when 6 speed gear buses are lock till 60.At least give till 65-70.

Believe it's not only to save fuel. It also is a rule by LTA that buses are to only run at a maximum of 60km/h. But personally, some services need to run so they need to go at a faster rate. I've ever boarded 858, 965 and 969 buses going at 60km/h, and the rides are horribly pathetic and some SLs complain they will be late for their schedule. Safety comes first, but their timings are also important. I see 61 buses on Sundays running like crazy just to meet their time, and I can hear the speed limiter for the AMDEP 61 rigids going off often till the SL needs to jerk the bus.
Basically, the slow acceleration of buses can be due to fuel saving and also the scheduling of buses. The bus companies either give too much or too little time to the bus services. For SBS Transit, because they've got plentiful supply of buses, most of their services travel at a slow speed, which explain for their slow acceleration. As for SMRT, some services go slowly to not overshoot the timings or else the SL needs to answer. And others fly like crazy just so that they meet the timings and so that their buses do not get overloaded.

One of the SMRT buses that can reach 70 km/h is the OC500LE.
The OC500LE is awesome. Steady acceleration and without a speed limiter. Been on an OC at 75km/h before. 67 SL rushing for Tampines Int along Bdk Reservoir Rd.
