This evening I boarded SBST48 near Sim Lim Square. There was a terrible jam and I reached HV 90 minutes later.
The bus was caught jammed all the way from Rochor to Farrer Road, and I believe many passengers would be waiting for that bus service. To my surprise, the bus drive on the right lanes, skipped all the bus stops (the bus still fairly empty), and no passengers were flagging for that bus while approaching at bus stops.
The bus arrived at HV, and I alighted, I realised that the bus panel (at the head of the bus) display 'OFFSERVICE'.
I am very surprised, though the bus was caught in the jam, I didn't feel too bad.
Since when SBST has started such practice? I am impressed.
going Off Service?
most likely the BC got instructions from OCC to display OFF SERVICE, and only to allow alighting and not boarding
sure, but never know SBST has such practice. the jam was indeed terrible. i shall avoid sbst 48 at all cost.
The bus is late thats why it becoma "OFFSERVICE" to save time...imagine if it continued to take in passengers, u probably reach HV 180minutes later
Spotted SBS8051B OFF SERVICE twds UEC Ter 2230++hrs... at Marine Parade/Still Rd South junction

Loop svcs always face this type of problem
I think 48 got problem de...
The other day at 7.10pm, I was at the first bus stop for the bus 48 (after coming out straight from the interchange) waiting for the bus coming out. As I just saw one 48 going off, i thought the most I would wait for the next one would be 15-20 minutes later.
In the end, the bus only came at 7.50pm. It took me 40 minutes to wait for the bus 48 coming right out from the interchange. There is NO jam, NO shortage of bus 48 buses parking at the interchange.
I was damn pissed off!!! 40 minutes for the bus to drive out from the interchange.
Does anyone know where can I make a complain to SBS? I am seriously damn pissed off at the moment, and the bus driver also never apologise or wat. Damn angry..
Where to make a complain?? Do let me know please

Maybe there was a jam earlier on that affected the bus timings....
All arrived at the same time and a new temporary timetable was planned for that day, delaying all bus services on 48.
Why should the bus driver apologise to you. It was the traffic that resulted in the change in bus timings. Not his fault.

I think it does happen when there is major traffic disruption.
SBST fond of doing this "OFF SERVICE" procedure to ensure its bus gets to the destination on time for the bus service's schedule trip.
Sometimes they deploy one extra bus to pick up stranded commuters in which the "OFF SERVICE" skips...
Was on STOMP last time for quite a few times...
For SMRT, they do something easy. Just retime all the subsequent trips for the day by putting a temporary plastic "SERVICE DELAYED" poster at the bus terminal or interchange stating DELAYED DUE TO TRAFFIC ALONG BLA BLA BLA ROAD. Waiting time is estimated 30-45 mins... Please make alternative transport arrangements. Handwritten timings and delay reason stated on the plastic poster.

i'm ok if they flip plate and the next bus behind it is within 5-8min. More than 10min apart wouldnt sound good.
SBST also has a service delayed poster. However, i rarely seen it being put up now. haha.

Drivers need to eat at Buona Vista Terminal. Add on to probably 1 peak hour bus going off service.. you get 40min. This is on top of the heavy traffic conditions on the previous trip.
The timekeeper cannot cut the mealbreak for drivers and its a mandatory requirement - minimum 20min.
Service 151 also like that during evening peaks. I board 151 two times both went Off service. one was at the bus stop of the Old Police academy and the other one is the next bus stop after police academy.

that is when u have to wait for e next sv48 bus that is still trying to rush to int
maybe sbs should has a short trip service 48 to skip the jaming part of the city area. And where is the bus lane when you need one???
Last Friday, encountered a case of s14 instructed to go off service. Rear bus chased up at Hoot Kiam Road, continued way in front of the affected bus. Bus parked at Macdonald House later, all plates put down and 'express' after that, stopping at stops only for alighting. Plates placed back at Bedok Food Court. Took about 30 minutes from Macdonald House to Bedok Food Court.

sv14 worse
peak hr can lambat 30mins/+
I must complement SBS Transit to implement such initiatives. How I wish SMRT has taken similar steps as well.
Waiting for SMRT 106 especially in the morning can be frustrating at times. Sometimes both 106 bendies arrive, the first was packed like sardines, and the second still have few seats available. It drives me mad when the first bus continue to stop and pick up passengers whilst the second bus continue to tail the first bus! That's bad!

The most unbelievable case I had was while waiting for 161 along hougang ave 8 in the late morning towards woodlands. the bus came 20 min late, chionged to the bus-stop, and then refused to open his door and flipped the plate and drove off.
wtf

Don't be so pedantic. You very well know that he meant the bus parking lots.

I think he meant there probably werent any buses left in both despatch points (Buona and UEC). all have probably been despatched and none seem to be returning. thats where horrible headways appear. more trouble with mealbreak.
Singapore too many cars liao.

143 everyday lambat 30-60mins. along PIE, you see more 143 buses on off service along the PIE throughout the whole day than any other service.
