Sure got war one. Just wait and see. SGForums is getting more and more hopeless with some people around. (:
Don't say never warn you ah, but most of the points that certain people are going to bring up, you can safely ignore (Which means you actually have not much information to get from in this forum). Especially extremist ideologies that target specifically at one particular group.
Holy War. Haha..
Jokes aside.
I think if SBST and SMRT merges into one, the bus services will be further deteriorated. There is no incentive to improve the bus services, except that the merged company will take advantage as a monopoly to constantly increase bus fares and deprove bus frequencies by allowing buses to be packed even further to improve its capacity loading.
only works if you're just talking surface level, won't work in reality.
Then tell me, who will acquire who? (i.e. the resultant brand that survives)

there will only be an incentive if another bus company comes into the public transport scene. and this company competes with SBST/SMRTB combined.

The most hopeless is winning a world award and start blowing trumpet around.
Our freaking population is now at 5m, and yet public tpt capacity was provided at 4m level. So dun come and say why traffic jam these and tat. Ppl rather drive w/ public tpt not even improved.
Ivory tower syndrome.
Like it or not, if we can have a good PSA Terminal able to handle 1/5 of world's transhipment needs, why can't invest on good public tpt system? fyi, 95% of wat PSA handles are transhipment, we actually only need 1 PSA Terminal at Tg Pagar for our own domestic needs.
be glad ppl is kpkb abt it. I'm sorry if you go ard tell ppl who are extremist as I can tell you to go and see ppl around the world operate public tpt.
Go Taipei you realise how SMRT be able to win best metro operator of e world award.
if you hate to improve our infrastructure then I'm sorry, Singapore would be destroyed.
We've no natural resources to survive on, so good svs is the only way to attract investors to here.
I dunno why buses are charged ERP.
Machiam symbolic disincentive for public buses to enter CBD.

I disagree. Already there's little incentive at this point because the market was segregated. A pluralistic market is not necessarily a better one....because of rent-seeking behaviour. Can u imagine the bus companies advertising more rather than spend the money on more tangible improvements? In fact unless the market is tightly regulated, you'll see the companies collaborate and squeeze every penny out of you. With tightly regulated markets, you might as well have a regulated monopoly? Less red-tape. Better still if it turns into a public-entity. The bottomline is that if it can turn profits like many others, why not?

How are you going to write a thesis/anti-thesis with an attitude like that?
You can choose to ignore...but please don't tell others to cover their eyes and ears.
Merge?Better dont. One big company ruling all public bus service sure yaya papaya. What i wish is that another establish, experienced and renowned bus company take over all SMRTB routes. No to monopoly for me.

Every time they do that, they have to go through the PTC/LTA, so these 2 government sectors will ensure that public transport is up to standard. The fares are low now mainly because there is PTC
merge of two big transport companies? I have share in one of them you want to paid me the share for the merge? The best is sbs take back the bus operation and SMRT do just the MRT operation. Then the taxi part from smrt go to comfort or form another company to do taxi.

In that case, SBST will become smaller and smaller in future while SMRT expand bigger and bigger due to the continuing expansion of new rail lines and rationalisation of bus services.
if merge
can u tell mi how many WAB svc we has??
if sbst and smrt merges...wad was the point of setting up tibs back then?

larent there alot already? just that its not identical for the whole route like 66 and 67...
