In the 1960s, public buses in Singapore used to
be non-air-conditioned with two-storey buses simply unthinkable.
Putting the evolution of public buses into place, the SBS Transit
provides the main bulk of the public buses that we see on the streets
of Singapore and has taken the liberty to enhance the public transport
experience with facilities of all sorts including a TV onboard,
air-conditioning for all buses and wheelchair friendly facilities to
ensure that our public buses are delivered on time. This session
provides a perspective of the service provider and provides a glimpse
of the history and development of public buses in Singapore.
In
addition, we meet with some really crazy bus fans who literally chase
buses as a hobby. Some say they are weird and crazy. Meet these
unbelievable bus fans who create their own fan club to discuss
everything about our public buses. Some literally go around chasing for
buses, just so that they can take a picture of the buses to add up to
their picture collections. The best part is some are not public
transport commuters but are still obsessed about buses. Join our bus
enthusiasts and hear more about the things that they do!
Due to limited seats, registration is required and can be made via http://golibrary.nlb.gov.sg and surf on to "MAS".
Saturday, 6 Feb, 10.00 am - 12.00 pm, level 16, POD, National Library building.

you won't believe the average utilisation during the off-peak hours does correspond to roughly the number of seats now available on the newer buses....
