I wonder why the darts are deployed on 42 and 92, when their gear power isn't that strong. Both services climb steep slops.

Maybe you have to realise that using a DSLR will not improve your shots drastically unless you have the right angles and the correct sunlight direction. I am no photography expert, but the basics of capturing a target involves the target not being blocked by anything and the shadows not making the target being black. I am not trying to diss anyone off here, but I do really wish that you make good use of your DSLR as it doesn't come cheap ... ...
Woodlands do have a lot of great photospots that rotate every season. Make good use of the place and your camera and your pictures would be good. Some examples of the spot you used, although they are not so good compared to others:
