Hi all
new thread for discussions on Hong Kong buses. A specialised thread part of the overseas buses family.
New Arrivals for 2010
This November, some new buses arrived for Hong Kong
Volvo B7RLE Mark 3
Co: KMB
Bodywork: MCV Evoltuion
Gearbox: (???)
EURO: (???)
At least one unit spotted by the folks there, bus doing tests runs and not registered yet by their "LTA".
comments:
Why is the MCV eVoltuion badge missing?
The emer exit door is now enhanced with all black colour. some safety rule there i guess.
I guess a nice Fleet Code would be AVBM1
Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400
Co: KMB and CityBus (CTB)
Bodywork: Integral from Alexander Dennis
Gearbox: (Voith???)
EURO: (Cleaner and greener but EURO ???)
Comments:
At least one unit of both companies spotted by the folks there, one KMB bus doing tests runs and not registered yet by their "LTA". Many photos of the bus with special EDS messages. In conforming with HK ruling EDS still shows yellow colour. Some meesages: " Lighter, cleaner and greener" "innvoation with style" "Alexander Dennis logo" " Enviro 400"
I am sure the Hong Kong fans had a nice time snapping away on road test day.
As with the B7RLE the emer exit door is fully black.
Also noticed is bull bar, a first for Hong Kong buses. Bull bar is sued to keep branches of low trees from hitting the bus too hard. bull bar will get the full impact and prevent damage to bus. The Bull bar is a common feature of Enviro buses in Uk and Canada and USA.
The windows are modified to suit and conform to the Hong Kong bus fleet, no roudned windows.
The front door egg shape styling is retained for this Enviro 400.
fleet code? er.... ATEB? lol
Future?
Will Hk buy Enviro 300 to complete their Enviro fleets? time will tell.
A bar at the top isnt called bullbar. a bullbar is to prevent headlight and bumper area from getting damaged when knock into animals. Which is commonly found on Aussie buses.
The E400 is NOT the first to get this bar.
THe NWFB 10.3m Tridents got them first thanks to the low branches found along the road up to the peak.
Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullbar
A bullbar (also roo bar or nudge bar in Australia) is a device fitted to the front of a vehicle to protect it and its passengers from damage in a collision with an animal
how to get from Sau Mau Ping Estate to Monk Kok Railway Station? jkjk
btw can i ask some details about KMB Dennis Trident DM5000?
How many are there and do they ever do any Tai Po/Sheung Shui/Fanling Bus routes (I know 307 is one of them zz)
Its good that we can have this thread to talk about hk stuffs. But i do foresee that it would turn into a games thread instead.
Jus my view though.

Svc 1A. That's what I learnt in MM2
Not sure whether there's a better alternative out there.

95 oso haha
Its called the Transport Department in hk, in short TD.
And no, the emergency exit door is not a TD requirement, it is an initiative by KMB to provide a larger exit for emergency and so that kids dont play with the emergency exit. It is fully made of a piece of glass (use the hammer to break)
They even came up with a press release just for this: http://www.kmb.hk/en/news/press/archives/news20090811465.html
The good old buses that I use to take in Hong Kong are either withdrawn or no longer the main perms of the services... Mercedes Benz O305 on various services, including from Tsuen Wan into Tuen Mun, Dennis Trident with ALX500 BW rt 968, a service that I frequently take when in HK.
Personally I do not like rt 15 that much for their climb. For a grade route I would recommend rt 64K, Yuen Long East to Tai Po (1 in 5 grade along Lam Kam Road). partially because I have not take rt 51 yet, but along rt 51 has the biggest per-meter grade in HK...
City route wise, yes rt 104 gets my vote, not only because of ASU 1 but also of the challenging town roads in and out of city at HK Island and Kowloon side...
I feel so jealous of hk's buses especially kmb's.They everytime buy all the nice nice buses....All the bus fan there so lucky....walao Volvo B7RLE....
My school friend said that kmb buying 50 Volvo B7R DD or something if i remember correctly. And he said that they were buying SDs also.Volvo also if i remember correctly.
Wah everytime all the nice nice buses in hk....Hw i wish singapore can also be like that :(
wondering wat is the current rare cameo of KMB...

It's Volvo B9TL MK II w/ Wright Bodywork. KMB is purchasing 60 units of it, along with the 40 B7RLE w/ MCV Bodywork. Will be scheduled to arrive next year.

KMB WABs have the wheelchair ramp at the front all the while, if i'm not wrong.
for me, the best ride is on a ADD, on the peak route, BC choing 90-110 kph to the entire peak, the road winding, one side rock wall one side steep cliff, best is sit front row, more adrenaline rush than a roller coaster ride

Erm, the vehicles are all limited to 70kph by speed limiters.
