Despite the additional of fleets for buses and trips for MRT trains, they have lost its ridership from 63% on 2004 to 59% on 2009.
Lets share a view that how to gain the ridership back.
Thanks.
Some wise ass SGreans said that they dun mind price increase if there is more room > gahmen will just take this chance to increase price believe or nt...
My GOD SGreans, think b4 u speak!!!
Who wants to cram in the NSL and EWL? SMRT makes their frequency 6mins between 1630-1700. Good riddance.

Weekends for EWL: 4 to 6 minutes
But after 1630, the S Shift trains would start their journey from Jurong East Interchange (for EWL line) towards Joo Koon so as not to wait longer.
I hope our MRT can introduce "No talking on Phone" campaign just like the Japanese, to reduce the noise level.
For the comfort of all passengers?!

OFF PEAK hrs trains are also packed coz SMRT never improve rail frequency, they tink SGreans juz work n go hme at 6/7m sharp... try takin train at 9pm northbound to WDL

Increase frequency make commuters even wait longer?
Yes, took northbound to JEI from YCK one of the time at 10pm, the source of crowds came from city to Yishun/Woodlands. SMRT has done a jood job actually: Keep frequency 4 to 5 minutes for northbound side during off peak.
The bus frequency should also keep at range of 8 to 10 minutes too during off peak.

i amended, increase frequency = have more trains running
Evening late OFF peak is approx 6/7mins
Some commuters prefer buses to MRT. It is sometimes more direct than the MRT. Yesterday, I heard one auntie comment that from Clementi, they should not take MRT to JE and transfer the free shuttle to IMM, but should take 52 direct. Because there is no seat on the MRT while you can get a seat on the bus.

Agreed. From school to home, I can take 187 even though it takes 45 to 50 minutes to reach there, which is longer than MRT (30 minutes). But in terms of conveniency, 187 is the best as I no need to walk further to my house whereas by taking MRT train, I need to walk for about 8 to 10 minutes.
So, most of the time, I managed to get a seat by taking the bus rather than taking MRT train.
SMRT has conducted 'Go green with SMRT' exercise so as to encourage commuters to take SMRT transportations (buses, MRT and taxi) instead of individual vehicles like: car, motorcycles. By doing so, it would be less pollutive. At the same time, to adjust the jams during the peak too.
And SMRT is conducting the 'Free rides with SMRT' every year from November to April when they would conduct lucky draw every month.
So, I think it is also better to increase the fare of ERP entry too.
Lesser people take public transport, lesser people to squeeze with.
