Hi everybody,
I am back.
Recently there was a thread on becoming a bus driver aka BC. I did write some of my comments, and it is nice to know that a BC job is not scorned.
I am just curious to know how many of you guys out there really want to be a BC.
It is easy, just get yourself a Class 3 driver's license and that's it. Because SMRT or SBST will provide in-house training. You will have to pass the test and then you will get a vocational license which the employer will authorise the license holder to drive a bus. It is just that easy.
The vocational license will allow the license holder to drive any bus, be it SBS or SMRT or even own a private hired bus.
But it is not a job which will give you plenty of money, but rather sometimes you may get scolding from unreasonable passengers.
I met my ex-colleagues recently. It appears that the schedule is not as demanding as before. Thanks to the GPS tracking system.

Warm regards.

SBST is easier to drive and learn due to more running time.
The basic pay for Singaporeans and PRs are also more, but one must be willing to clock as much OT as possible to earn a decent pay. The good thing about the job is, you do not have a fixed pay, if you are willing to work more, get a split shift slot and get all the OT you can get!

usually depends on connections and whether there is an empty slot.
but some drivers like to be on standby or take split shifts.... got chance for more OT

Those split shift can choose want or RM ply want?
Anyway if been a BC, can we still have time for family/gf/wife? BC can marry with the amount of the basic pay?
I saw an ad at Boon Lay Int just now. The ad said that If I recommend my relative or friend to become BC, I could get up to $400 cash!

Seems like Singaporean does not like to be BC.. How come? Is it because of the pay???

Credit Card applications? How do you know? Maybe bus driver as in their own private bus?
Can be tiring at times.

must apply to 'enter' the route.
as with any job, it's about how you balance your working life with family life. drivers have a standard off day per week (some hardworking drivers, mostly PRCs who dun have their family here, choose to come back to despatch office even on their off days cos of double pay) too. some split shift drivers like their duties as it allows them to go back to school during swing to bring their kids home and have lunch with them before going back to drive during the evening peak.
as for renumeration, it can be comparable to any other job of similar job scope, so it boils down to your budget control. in other words, if you cannot marry with the pay for other jobs, it'll be the same for a BC job since the pay is comparable. nobody gets the basic pay anyway. there is some OT and allowances for the different shifts performed throughout the month, and not forgetting performance and no-accident bonuses.

that is if you are currently a SBST Staff. Like that any John Peter or Fernendez can recommend anyone to be a BC.
Ex-busdriver you got a mistake there. For those who only have class3 the operator will conduct in house training and after you've pass they issue you to a class 4A license(same goes for Malaysian no matter how many classes they have). The vocational license is only for driving Omni buses ie SBST @ SMRT as well as back up NR/Niteowl buses. You cannot drive a private hire/School buses with that VL.When i first join SBST i only have class 3 and private buses(PA) vocational license but still have to go for bus familiaration course but not for VL course conduct by LTA instructor. After years with SBST i manage to take my own class 4 and voila i can drive any PH/PA/CB/PZ buses now.But the rules for SMRT Niterider and bus plus is different,You must have a valid class 4 with own Vocational license to work.Guess i have see many Singaporean join SMRT buses because of the2 day off weekly versus SBST one day off weekly.

So what you mean? If i have a class3 license, can i apply? Do we need to pay for the class4 license?
To pass the class4 license, is it diffcult? To compare SMRT and SBST, which company to join better?

You mentioned, need to apply to 'enter' the route... How does it go?

cannot choose. Ur teacher during training will dispatch you to your route manager then he will throw you the route and your route teacher.
aiyah, go study more la, dont think of being bus drivers.
