Well, by looking at the past posts of cameos of last few weeks*, you will see that TIB968R is the Volgren Mercs that did 178 the most, unlike TIB959S, TIB960L and others, which did only 1 or 2 times or none.* Note that is PAST FEW WEEKS, not YEARS.
i caught that bus just a few weeks back, but other than that, none
Are the scania elbos and striders being scrapped ? I remember the Scania elbos and striders should be at least 13 yrs old. At least 5 more years left to toil. Why are they being retired earlier ?

Most of the SBSL/Comfort bus L113CRLs got scrapped despite being 9 or 10 years old. They still had 10 to 11 years of lifespan left, so it just boils down to economic sense.

It is the CAC Scania ELBOs that SMRT are phasing out due to the poor bus conditions, and also now that SMRT are bringing in new and better buses. Perhaps u want to try out such buses on services 187/852 and see whether they deserves to be taken off from the roads or not .
The OAC Scania Striders will still stay on, furthermore TIB562C and some others had been refurbished too.
so when will the Striders go?

You are right. CAC Scania ELBOs are having poor bad conditions. This was what I experience when I ride svc 187 sometimes.
1) Poor flow of Air-Cond in the afternoon. The bus is having poor flow of air-con. You can feel it once you enter the bus and tap your ez-link card. Once you move to the rear, you can't feel the air anymore.
2) Exit door is further away from the usual bus. I realised that the exit door was to far from the rear. It takes time for passengers seating at the rear or back of the bus when the bus was packed with people to exit the bus.
3) Lack of standing space. The path of the standing space in the bus to the rear normally 1-2 passengers. Eg. 1 facing to the left, another facing to the right. This bus can only take only 1 at a time. I face this before that the bus was full of students around 1pm to 2pm+ in Jurong West. They are having their back-pack at their back and this will have difficulities of passengers who are seating at the rear or back trying to squeeze to get out of the exit door.
4) There were insufficient of Air-con holes in the bus. Usual bus have 2 holes. This bus only have 1.
This was what I thought when riding service 187 towards Woodlands. What do you guys think?
Hmm... Just wondering which buses will take over as Training Buses next year when the Nissan UDs retire? Maybe the UMW Lances?

If you take TIB846J - WL 187 especially, you will feel very stuffy at the back. Somemore with the old ads on the windows, making it more stuffy. Tried adless ELBOs, they were not as bad as TIB846J when you seat at the back.

Yah. The design of the doors were actually the same as WAB buses if you notice.

Saw the deregistered TIB835R and some Nissan UDs inside the scrapyard along Sungei Kadut Drive yesterday, the tow truck right beside it. Sad.

925 striked out already, thx for the info. :)
ELBO is one of my favourite buses when it did ex-103. Ever since it become CAC, I'm very disappointed with the air-con.
Cheers.

Was searching some S'pore bus accidents vids and I came across this. Near side accident of TIB834T at CCK heading towards Bt Panjang. Its rego is unclear, but by looking at the very old Sensodye ad, its confirmed TIB834T.
