Crazy,Then 190 sure everyday got complains overloading.Best thing for city services with bendies just operate during peak hours and for non peak or weekends just use a few can say for Saturdays and Sundays only 5-6 bendies are allowed to operate. For 969,still can operate all day long.969 loads look like never ending one. With recent new OCs running amok i think 851 should donate 2 bendies to service 980,Good for peak hours

Hey buddy, when do you want to fly Firefly? Still waiting for you. :P SMRT ? I have given up hope on their mediocre service.

How much do you know about SMRT and their problems, wiseguy? You are a totally changed person since the last time I met you.
NO!!!!If they ban bendies, i wonder how is services like 190, 851 ect going to cope with mass overcrowding?

- Parallel Route
- Double Deck? (190 only, 851 got yishun int :P)
- MRT XD

your opinions does make sense but still, im sure you know how bendies are like the best to me, espcially when im on 851, it loves to chiong. time taken from thomson rd(thomson medical centre there)to tiong bahru can take about 20 mins if it chiongs like no tomorrow

okay. but i am still not up to the idea to ban bendies....

It's not cheap to upgrade their infrastructures to house double deckers. Since no one has the exact documents or mandate by LTA I think we should not speculate so much first. Banning and cannot expand the bendy fleet are two different things.
It's as good as asking SBS Transit to get rid of all their double deckers in favour of bendies.

I fully agree. Had enough of their nonsense. If it happens, great.
It would be better for SMRT to take over all rail and SBST take over all bus services in Singapore. They can fully utilise their specialities and make full use of it to do greater improvements.

It is not asking to SMRT to scrap their bendies overnight, but do a progressive replacement as and when the bendies reach their statutory lifespans, which means as and when the bendies are scrapped, buy new double deckers.
Since now LTA is supportive for the building of new infrastruture for new depots, SMRT can request for the progressive upgrading for their existing depots to be double decker friendly. For example, since the lease for Ang Mo Kio depot is up soon, and they are building a new one, then the new one can be double decker friendly. Just like what SBST is going to for Bedok North, if the rumor is true, they want to upgrade the depot as a multistorey one. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Banning bendies is a bad idea, even limiting them is as good as banning them. Instead of jeopardising the number of high capacity buses for SMRTB, then might as well go easy with double deckers instead. But then it all depends whether SMRT really bother interested to do all these or not. If it was the old TIBS, banning bendies will never happen to them.
For those who don't believe in jack knifing or back trailer swinging, here's a video.
However for Singapore bendy buses, the middle turntable are electronically controlled and equipped with safety switches to prevent jacknifing, so basically this will not happen here. But such mechanisms MAY not always be working properly if say, poor maintainance over time, detoriation of the mechanisms due to long service years and old age. Our bendy buses do not swing or jack knife at the extremes shown at the video, but that doesn't mean there is no minimal effects. It might not be felt when in the bus, but may be visible while you are outside the bus. Sometimes tires also play a part, especially a worn out tire on wet slippery roads.

Fair enough. However the so-called rule by LTA is unclear, as in whether SMRT cannot replace the bendies with new ones or are limited by numbers.
Anyway the exchange of services (trains to SMRT, buses to SBST) might have happened if the central planning wasn't introduced.

SBS controls their freq n timings much better than SMRT imo

I never supported the central planning in the first place. Even before the central planning takes place, LTA is already interfering too much in the bus operations for the local bus operators. Take this bendy bus episode for example.
However, the most destructing rules they implement is the boundaries limitation for bus operators (hence poor bus network links to the North and Northwest), ERP for buses and taxis, eliminating bus routes along MRT lines, etc.
All these are simply unnecessary rules which controls the operations of bus operators too much and thus limiting the best offerings that bus services can give to commuters in a small city like Singapore. Such kind of restrictions should be changed according to the bus operators perspective and not LTA interference into such operations matters.
What LTA should control is more of the commuters' perspective, like frequency of bus services, safety and cleaniness of buses, the concentration of bus routes and networks to compete with other forms of public transport, fares and quality of customer service.
With the central planning coming up, I would say to many of you here, maybe prepare for the worse.
don't even ban bendy untill the day i have cars please
kao.. my house here wven with bendies already full @ the max. if no bendy, i think my this area of people prepare to eat wind at the busstop untill they are late late late
In my opinion
Bendy buses are ok for urban operations and training is provided for bendy bus drivers. Given their load capacity and the 1 entrance 2 exit concept for a faster passenger flow on the same level, bannning bendy buses would be a pity.

i seat before. the bendy interior is not well maintained....dirty like hell
Why must it be banned? Psg high demand le

Should see the situation when Svc 903 would use full rigid fleets. Already the svc has frequencies below 5mins from the interchange during peak periods and buses are still packed to the door

yeah...903 demand very high. sometimes 900/901 too...

Mostly, RP people around 7.45am to 10am and 3.30pm to 5pm. They can choose to take 903 at either last stop of Riverside Road or walk to Block 803 bus-stop after school time.
This is what happen after school: Because of fully packed at RIverside Road stop, some of them cannot really squeeze in at the last stop before going WRI. Furthermore, most of them also boarded 169 from opp. RP stop.
But they keep frequency of 903 on 10 to 12 minutes. Most of the times, I had to wait 903 for about more than 10 minutes. After that, both 903 buses were bunched up together to fetch RP people.

Service 169 slso. It is obviously that RP people would take either 169 or 902 to go there. However, occassionally, a rigid (like TIB654X) would appear on bendy's slot (TIB1178Y). Thus, they won't squueze bus easily and have to wait for the next bus (about 7 to 8 minutes) to come.
But with bendy, they no need to wait for the next bus to come.

I was wondering if LTA would allow buses like Tri-Axle SDs to be bought by SMRTB to remedy the situation for the lack of bendy buses. At least it takes in more passengers than rigids, but most probably such buses would receive complaints by road users about their turning ... ...
