What do you think if LTA use road shoulder at expressways as bus lane if there any congestions?
for me it could be good for bus lane cuz just now i took 198 along AYE go congestion, and the bus block by the cars infront. so i look at the road shoulder and i think bout this.

Erm....
Road shoulder is meant for vehicles like ambulances, tow trucks, police cars, breakdown veh etc... Not meant for buses for that purpose.
I am a frequent traveller of 198 and sometimes the BC travel along the road shoulder in jams too especially in the direction of Bt. Merah. The bottleneck is usually at the area where the bus just entered AYE. But subsequenly, there are roads along AYE that are meant for buses only. That's when the BC revs up.
eh.. safety
wat abt breakdown cars?

Usually the drivers tend to avoid the 4th lane, since they know buses always take this lane. Then if got jam buses can skip one stretch, go inside bus stop lane and come out XD
Road shoulder is for emergency vehicles or breakdown vehicles. If buses use this lane then I dunno what will happen. Ambulance stuck behind bus, or bus cannot stop in time then go bang into broken down vehicle?

Yup... it's obviously meant for those so that those impt vehicles can come later.
road shoulders are for emergency vehicles. in case of accidents, ambulances can reach the accident scene to render first aid quickly.
let's say AM peak a very bad accident happens on PIE(Tuas) near Eng Neo exit.
you wouldnt want an ambulance to be blocked by 52, 74e, 151e, 190, 502, 506, 700, 966 & 985.
yes, it is a very convenient idea so to speak. but rationally, it cannot be done.
Some shoulder lanes aren't even wide enough for those buses.
Dun worry, those season BCs will know when, where and how to play punk on the system.

Hehe... TP will copy the bus rego and issue him a summon lor.
how about this unwritten rule that buses can travel on road shoulders if there's a jam. catch is that no idling on the road shoulder is allowed.
hard to pass this rule. drivers will definitely take advantage of it.

Erm... no need to pass this rule 'cos cars and taxis have been abusing it everyday.
its better to just cut one lane out as a bus lane.

You will hear lots of swearing by motorists later.
I really mean lots of it.
We should have 2 road shoulders on the expressway on top of the existing road lanes, one for vehicle breakdown, and the other for buses. So if your expressway had existing 4 running lanes, there should be a total of 6 lanes.

With this, buses don't need expressways anymore...

That's interesting...
bus lane for expressway will be better
i think can let bus run on shoulder on peak hours, and when they hear siren from ambulances or police cars from afar, private cars must give way to buses to let them go back onto lane again. sounds good.

This idea was nothing new as the first system was up in Australia in the 1980s.
SBS did propose such a guided bus system in Singapore in the late 1990s, but LTA was really stupid enough to reject this good proposal at that time.
Such guided bus system is not only flexible here, as it allow buses to move on such systems as well as on the roads, but also more cost effective than LRT system and more importantly bus lane problems and other related problems will be minimised to the lowest levels as buses will have their own lanes, thus other vehicles cannot interfer this lane specially for buses. On the other hand, it eliminates the need for extra lane to be given to buses only on the roads as it is unfair for other motorists who shares the road and pay the road taxes and other related road charges and yet have to compete with public buses with road space. If only SBS's proposal was implemented then, bus speeds will be up significantly and no obstructions for buses leaving the bus stops, since such guided busways allows buses to travel up to 100km/h.
As mentioned before, road shoulders at expressway for buses are not feasible as it is catered for other purposes like emergency vehicles, breakdown vehicles, vehicles involved in small accidents, etc. Bus lanes on expressways doesn't help to solve much of the problem as well.
In the morning already so jam, still wan to cut out one lane for buses. How many buses in the whole Singapore use the expressway?
2? 3? 5? 7?
the bus drivers are 2nd in maniac and dangerous driving only to the taxi drivers...
and you want them to hog the emergency lane?
what the hell is wrong with you?

Pretty cool idea, but a bus breaking down on one lane would spell trouble, unless there was a 3rd lane. Ain't too feasible for land scarce singapore though.

Would love it but i dun think Singapore has anymore spaces to add in all this...the only space left if they want to do this would be underground
I think cannot that is for breakdown vehicles.

Can use one lane as heavy vehicles lane. For buses , trucks , etc.
