Can normal class 3 drive a PA plate? I heard its only PZ that needs vocational licence?
And can i know whether they can use the bus lane? Just use and not stop.
Bus lane mean for bus right?
Yes, but i read somewhere that PA plate can use but not stop? Its a private bus btw. Not private hire.
heard they don't categorize PA and PZ plates anymore... all new buses will be registered as PA.
hmm.. Still see them on the road. I ask one uncle, he said no need vocational can drive PA already. But need vocational for private hire aka PZ?
got PC plated buses too..
Ah found it. I am driving my company's van which is PA plated.
Do I need a vocational licence to drive a bus?
Drivers of all buses, except private buses that ferry employees or business associates of the vehicle owners, require a valid vocational licence issued by LTA.
If a private bus is approved to ferry students and/or tourists, the driver must also possess a valid vocational licence.
By the way, am i allowed to use bus lane? Not stopping, since its p plate?

Hiace i supposed? All buses are able to use the bus lane, regardless of PA PC PZ or CB. No problems whatsoever.
Singapore buses are classified either as public buses or private buses. Public buses are those under SBST, SMRT and SJE. They are also known as Omnibuses. Private buses are therefore those buses that are not Omnibuses. They are further classified as Private Bus (PB), Private Hire Bus (PH), Excursion Bus (PZ) and School Bus (CB). These include SMRT's livery private buses. Depending on how you want to use the bus, you would need to apply to LTA on the appropriate classification. Years back, a bus can only be used as what it is supposed to be used for. Example, a school bus must be used as a school bus and it cannot be used as a private bus, a private hire bus or an excursion bus. You can refer to LTA website on the details of these classifications.
However, LTA recently (couple of years back) allow secondary usage of these buses as long as it is approved by them. That means, a School Bus can also be used as a Private Hire Bus. This is where the classification becomes blurred. Hence, a generic plate prefix was introduced. This is where you see all the PA, PC buses being registered and the PB, PH, PZ and CB prefixes would not be used for newly registered buses. Existing buses still retain these prefixes.
Class 3 licence holders can also drive a bus. What really matters is the size of the bus. Normally those buses with pax capacity of 11 seaters can be driven by Class 3 licence holders. Vocational licences are required for all buses except private buses. Also, all buses can drive into bus lanes during bus lanes operational hours BUT only omnibuses are allowed to stop at bus stops located along these bus lanes. That being said, they are only allowed to stop at approved stopping points. So it is not correct for 74e to stop at the bus stop before CTE during AM Peak.
PH,CB,PZ or PA/PB/PC all need Vocational license. You can drive those Toyota Hiace or Nissan Urvan PA/CB plate w/o VL provided if you don't involved in traffic accident. Now Bus driver Vocational license are all categorised in one license except PZ.But for those holding a Omnicity one cant drive PA whatsoever.Mine is Bus driver and Taxi VL.
In the past CB was used for school buses, PH used for private buses whereas PZ was used for tour coaches.
Think PA regoes was used later after all the above mentioned regoes were used up, followed by PB and PC.

Wrong.
PH was used for Private Hire
PB was for Private Buses
Please take note of the difference between Private Hire and Private Buses. Private Hire means that the bus is privately owned but can be hired/chartered by another person. Private Bus simply means the bus is privately owned for use by the entity/company.
Thats why regos skip from PA to PC.
Now you still can regeister your bus as CB or PZ provided but i think you have to buy the CB or PZ plate , can see coz the new DD coaches purchased by Selecta Express are all registered with PZ plate & these PZ plate are mostly used before by former buses , like for example , PZ 761K & PZ995E are now Scania DDs of Selecta Express , these 2 plate numbers came from their Mercedes OH1318 which were now registered as PA7910D & PA8781G.
Its a regius FYI. Company van. Not those ferrying sch children/tourists one.
