SBS Transit’s fleet renewal programme continues unabated with its latest order for 350 new buses worth $ 159 million. This brings the Company’s total investment in new buses over the last three years to $ 586 million.
The latest order for 350 single– and double–deck buses will significantly lower the average age of SBS Transit’s bus fleet to slightly over 8 years from about 11 years currently. Indeed, with the addition of the new buses, one in two SBS Transit buses on the road will be new.
The new buses, which are expected to roll out in 2010, are from two Swedish bus manufacturers – Scania and Volvo. The Scania order involving 200 single–deck Euro V buses is worth an estimated $ 72 million while the Volvo order of 150 double–deck Euro V buses is worth about $ 87 million.
In all, SBS Transit will have 1,450 new buses in its fleet.
SBS Transit Executive Director, Mr Gan Juay Kiat, said: “We have been renewing our fleet over the last three years to provide our commuters with a more comfortable and safer ride. The new buses are also environmentally friendly which is a key consideration for us. We have also selected those that are friendlier to the disabled and the less mobile. We will continue to invest in more new buses going forward.”

Fuel consumption cannot justify lah...
Same chassis, 230, 270, 310/320, also 80+ passengers only...
Don't mind a same K chassis with 480/680 horsepower if I have a oil field though
Any pictures?
disaster...

Fuel consumption depends on more than just horsepower.
A higher horsepower engine (assuming the same displacement) may allow the use of a higher final drive ratio which allows the engine to more efficiently operate at lower engine speeds lowering fuel consumption. Higher horsepower engines also have less tendency to 'labour' (a condition where the engine does not have enough power / torque to maintain optimum operating speeds - a labouring engine uses much more fuel than an engine operating at optinum speeds).
A higher horsepower engine is also likely to last longer because it doesn't have to be pushed as hard to achieve the same effect.
FYI, the K-series city buses now include the K230, K280 and K320 UA/UB.
Regards,
Dave

Another important factor is tire selection, right Dave? Wrong selection of tires can really increase fuel consumption on long runs.

Haven't even go into production where to get pictures? :(
for B9TLs, i hope the bodywork can be slightly twisted.
1st deck, the foru rear facing seats abolished, cause too many people uses it as leg rest, instead, push one more row of seats, i understand that this will need a rasing of the floor to accomodate the axle, like what HK did on their ADDs........ in addition, insert seatbelt at PIW backrest
2nd floor, the two side facing seats (6), should be changed to front facing, this should addd 2 more seats.........
Plus use EDS please, i hope is DT style not LEPIC eds..........

eds? i rather destos. and those eds on the tridents, 9810 and 9889 are no longer available. think it's twin vision transit media or smth. maybe hanover or lawo but please srsly no coolair
I hope the new Scania Euro V bus design will be quite different from the current ones.
And also how about a change of bus interior colour to say; purple (SBST livery)?
and better still; different engine sound?
