Dunno but it seems there's quite lots of bad habits these days
1) Failure to slow down way before approaching bus stop. Esp those places where bus stops are after bend and along e road like Stevens Rd (Sv 190 BC love to accerlerate and do heavy braking, wat if there's cars or esp m'bike close behind?)
2) Exiting bus stop agreesively (Spotted 1 Sv 700 bendy this morning, a vehicle just beside still accelerate out)
3) Failure to slow down before approaching junction, so ends up w/ either heavy braking or beat red light cases (Noticed lots of new driver has this problem)
4) Listening to personal music player (w/ earphone).. Ever saw this myself when asking 1 SMRT BC over something, he plugged out his ear piece!!!)
The skills to driving a bus can be taught within a period of time but having a positive attitude is cultivated over longer periods of time. It all boils down to the character of the BC. I did encounter all those bad habits u mentioned over the years of bus commuting and it is inevitable that we will meet those type of drivers mentioned. As much as we desire to have a good commuting experience, sometimes it's hard to attain that ideality.
Very common to see these bad habits. Most of the time is due to being behind schedule, wanting to speed up.

Targeting the bad BCs will not solve the problem.
This problem exist in all sectors of the economy i.e. all categories of workers in Singapore. This is due primarily to the education level of the workers. By education I mean academic and life sciences.
A better educated workforce will generally mean a more professional worker.
Why do you think the the BC drives with an earpiece? He is not aware of the implications. He would certainly have been told to be mindful of safety and to be alert. But it just do not register.
The subjects of our education syllabus do not make a better person. That where all the problems regarding service standards originates.

but you can cause an accident which could have been avoided
just like you're driving, suddenly in front of you a vehicle keep on chiong then brake heavily
if it's a following packed bus, ppl could fall down also

sometimes is bo lang press bell and only boarding
tat Stevens Rd bus stops either are along e road or being blocked by overhead bridge - tis one really must slow down
esp those bus stops near merging lanes, they love to insist to make ppl to e-brake as they move off from stationary

I've seen SBS drivers some really terrible before but not till hearing their own music (ppl horn to avoid accident you end up deaf) or approach bus stop dun even want to slow down or like tat 700 bus almost langa w/ tat vehicle
The best at CCK Int, in front alighting berth empty wanna insist on scaring 2 ladies standing on e road and not filter out (they're wrong to stand on e road, but drive right in front of them isn't, it's road bully)
I would say, everything is ownself ppl made e system to rot

I feel when it comes to social responsibility and behaviour, everyone plays an important role. As much as the education syllabus itself do not make a better person, having some education in school helps because teachers of today dun just pass on hardcore knowledge to the students, but also focus a lot on the character development of the students. This will go a long way when the student leaves school for work next time.
Perhaps, in the context of BCs, the current batch feature lots of foreigners from China and M'sia. Most of them are into their primes as well. As for how well they are educated, that's not of utmost concern but perhaps they should be taught about the dos and don'ts in their job. Make it simple for them to understand so that they learn faster and adopt the good practices on the roads.
As for the future local BCs, we know they are the products of a more streamlined education system laid up during their younger days and a better standard of living; hence we should be able to expect their level of proficiency, in areas of ethics and technical knowledge, to move a notch upwards.

fast ride partly cos SMRT love to tighten running time
PM peak 966 running time 2 hr 17 mins, BC only get 9 mins break before next full trip. 2 hr 17 mins was barely enough
Maybe tat's how come we see super agressive drivers
