Should Principal / teacher hit students?

A principal of Nan Chiau Sec resigned as P from the school after he slapped a student.
Nowadays students getting worse (think Honghong actually posted a thread abt Sec Sch students behaviour too).
Do u think teachers/principals go back to use the cane again, like last time???

however, what constitutes violence is debatable. a light slap on the arm or butt hopefully would not be viewed as violence by over-protecting parents. -
yes. i mean this gives the students the impression that they are kings and are all-powerful than their elders/seniors
i feel that teachers shld have the right to physically discipline students, his act may be considered a rash act of violence but, if he did this 10,20 years ago, the parents would have given the student a Round 2 when he/she came home.
nothing to do with, times have changed but the need for discipline is ever-present and there will be an increase in need for it in lieu of greater exposure to social ills.
sad to say but i feel he has made a mistake. mistake not as in he slapped to student in a fit of anger but he shld have left her to rot. why shld be doing this? for the sake of the child ? sorry sir,now it's the time to let her rot after 21 offences in 1 year...my former sec sch would have thrown her out. 21 offences is already very tolerant,no it shld be extremely extravagant.
i see he made 2 mistakes here.
1. shld be letting her rot/sacking her
2. let her parents handle the nightmare. the sch is not an childcare centre -

Use e cane appropriately lah... Im juz afraid tat if teachers n principals start 2 use cane, they like take it 4 granted, end up misuse e cane. Like a little bit den use cane. >> Liddat cannot mah...
As 4 tat Nan Chiau principal thing... I tink itz because e female students reali bad loh... They too overboard liao... I watched e news they said tat e ger whom he slapped is reali a bad student... She already vilated more than 21 rules of e sch... If i were him i oso buay tahan... -

and mummy still present to see teacher hit the kids, still saying, "nvm go ahead n punish'

anyway unless it those very terrible abusing... but just use a soft cover to hit the head nia.. y make such a big fuss

)grow up in the era where teacher and principals are given the rite to discipline the students?
last time our teachers can just use wooden rulers and beat our palm when we were naughty and parents will be glad for the disciplinary action... but now.... hai....
think children nowadays are more pampered...

The girl deserved to be punished.
But when you have a no hitting rule in school, no staff regardless of position should lose his temper or control. It's regretful that the principle had to bear the brunt.
And who the heck was the fella who ratted on him?! I'm guessing there are staff there who aren't that supportive of his management? Because there are teachers everywhere who cross the line sometimes... but never heard of fellow colleagues who report them :S -
Tot it's the some student that went report police??
think next time teacher also becum useless liaoz.

in fact, some teachers applied for early retirement, esp. the older batch of teachers who r still under pension scheme/ gratuity type opted to leave early for fear of hitting a student in a fit of anger and loses all the $$$

the principal too soft-hearted lah.....tolerated so many of her offences....in fact, he shd be reporting her to the police for underage smoking.......but then, someone got ahead and reported him first.......so suay........

youngster nowadays must be disciplined using the olden days method. wat liberalised teaching method and human rights..these r catalysts for their nonsensical behaviour. Teach them a good lesson and make sure they remember it the rest of their lives..but while doing so need to explain to them.

a teacher-student rship is a transaction.........students (parents) pay the teacher to teach......so students have a "control" over the teachers....anything the student dun like or thinks tt the teacher shd not be doing this to them, they can complain.....and bcos MOE want face.......most of the time the teachers kena badly even though it's the students/parents man bu jiang li...... -

I agree we must protect our children from violence and other vices, but not to the extend of making them the kings and queens of the school. School is a place to instill knowledge and discipline in them, not for them to climb over the teachers' heads.
That kpo person also never try to find out why the principal punish the girl in the first place, and straight away call police. Now the whole thing is blown up, and the principal has to be 'sacrificed' for his deeds. -

Yeah... I remember I used to have Round 2 of canning if I were to tell my parents that I got scolded or canned by teacher.
Some students nowadays are really rebellious and uncontrolled. Sadly, some of these student parents also behave in an idiotic way thinking that it is not the teachers jurisdiction to punished these students. I think these people really lack foresight.
In Chinese San Zhi Jing, ‘.. xue bu jiao, shi zhi guo...’, if the student is does not learnt (or behave, it’s the failure of the teacher to discipline them. Was I angry with the teacher that disciplined me, probably yes at that time but also through those disciplinary actions that I respected them and in my later years, I am grateful to them cause the kept me from straying. Though I am no body great now, I sure thank the teachers for their teaching.
I also think the MOE should not have accepted his resignation. This will only singled to the public that teachers should not discipline students. This will also demoralize the teachers and educators for Christ sake.
However, the punishment should be using cane and should not use hand to slap. I am not sure how true if it was the case that the principle slapped the student. But I think probably the student deserved it!!! DamnÂ… if I were him, I probably KTV her. -
