like choco B, i also find that the overall effect showed a relax, casual feel...which i thgt it's quite rare for outdoor shootings...at least from those i've seen thus far.
I preferred the mono pics (is that what b&w pics are called? duno, i just use it anyway hor...) to the colored ones....The colored ones did not look bright nor vibrant enuff...perhaps it wasn't a sunny day then? and for the evening shots...the color effect was..."too natural"? I don't quite know how to say it...but i ever see colleagues' pics where the evening shots gave an overall orangy and dreamy dreamy feel...it's like when i looked at it, even i can feel the beautiful sunset at that particular moment? then again, different photographers like different effect of their shootings...perhaps you preferred having an overall well blended feel, ie. not making the couple stand out too much from the background....that i'm not sure. My sense is that since it's an outdoor wedding shootings...it'll be nice to make the couple stand out as much as possible...w/o compromising the overall effect or feel you want of course...
other factor that didn't quite make the colored ones looked very outstanding could be attributed to the locations chosen and the limited angle shots for either the couple or individual shots?
Those aside, I must say that the mono pics looked great! Especially the one where the couple sat on the bench and looked behind (think the 3rd pic from your site)?
I looked thru the other 3 wedding shots you had in your site too...i noticed that you do very very nice mono pics....it's evident in the other 3 albums as well leh...
Yup, the above are the immediate impressions i've got after seeing your pics. er...i'm just a know nothing about photography person making some duno valid or not kind of comments here hor...pls pardon if you think i'm sprouting nonsense here...
wow nice and detailed...
firstly, no u're not sprouting nonsense at all, it's always good to have non-photographers look at the photos and give honest comments because generally, there are more non-photogs that look at photos than photogs!
u're mostly right, alot of it is due to personal preference. i dun really have a style for bridal shoots, as opposed to my actual day shoots, these two events are VASTLY different. so i'm still figuring it out.
a few pple like urself have commented on the colour photos not "standing out". what u guys probably mean, and the term for it, would be the lack of saturation. it's more of a not here not there kind of look, it's not full colour, not is it b/w or mono. i do like desaturated shots sometimes, my favourite being of this series is below, but i guess most aren't used to this look.
for this shot, i wanted a totally clean white sky, very minimal distractions, the lamp-post perhaps the only nice complement, and something very dreamy, foggy, pale, serene, not provocative, INSIPID hahahaah.. hard to explain... but of course, the couple might not choose to print it, but i'm ok with it. they're the ones paying, which is wat's important.
so yes it's kinda tough to know wat is good, but i know it's always best to hear out views from pple like u, thanx!
