Google to offer 1Gb email service soon
CALIFORNIA — Popular search engine Google Inc. announced on Wednesday it would launch a free, Web-based email service to rival similar services provided by Yahoo! Inc and Microsoft Corp.
.
The one gigabyte "Gmail", as the service will be called, will include a built-in search function that will allow users to search every email they have ever sent or received, AP reported.
.
The storage is more than 100 times what most providers offer and is enough to hold 500,000 pages of email.
.
The new service is being offered to invited users, but it will be available to everyone in a few weeks, AP reported.
.
Analysts said the service could shake up the free email market, which Yahoo! dominates with 52.6 million unique users per month in the United States according to a February survey.
.
Microsoft's Hotmail is next with 45.4 million users. AOL has 40.2 million paying users.
