need advice on digital cam

planning to get one for recreational usage and scenary takings, wondering which is better, more megapixes with 3x optical zoom or less megapix with more optical zoom. any suggestions on which camera to get?
just wondering if the new panasonic LUMIX FZ1 is good... it has 12X optical zoom but with only 2.1 megapix...

be careful with ur optical zoom... more zoom means more prone to camera shake.. if u take hand held most of the time.

2.1mp can print 4Rs without much problems.. and there's a "megapixel" myth... more is not necessarily better.
stick to a 2 or 3 megapixel cam and find one with features that u think u will use. most of the main brands are all ok, it's just a matter of preference.. -

i using a fz1 now.
2.1 MP can print a max of ard 5,6R.
some photos labs different.
1 thing abt cams > 2MP is that u can take damn big pics, great for printing posters, A4 size photos etc.
for online use only,show online, 2.0MP is more than enuf. because the optimum size is 640x480 pixels. which is 0.9MP.
at this pic size, it is sufficiently big for viewing online and not too big for the page to load.esp when u are using 56K or when net speeds are slow.

btw Fz1 is not really new, was released in june this year.
fz2 is likely to come in as an replacement for fz1 when the stocks are depleted.

olympus C750UZ..4 megapix with 10x zoom -
i totally agree with joho.
1 thing is that the fz10 is gonna cost just under SGD$1K. if u buy it frm overseas. -

hahhaha... thanks for all the info guys... regarding about the 4MP and 10x zoom... I don't think I will want to spend too much on a camera for now... especially I'm still a noob in all these stuffs. Thanks, wil look into the camera... =)

meaning is, still do not know what to get... the price for panasonic is bout $659 and with additional of $340, I could get one with 4 MP and 10X zoom... which will last me even longer.... Hmm... hard to decide...

I saw that cam and had a feel of it at comex. Didint really like it. For me, if u really wan to print good quality pictures, 2mp is can only reach the maximum size of 4R. Not bigger than that.
If u want ur picture to be bigger than 4R, then go for at least 3.2mp.
For recreational sake and travelling purposes, a 2mp should be enough if you dun print ur pictures that often and never want them to be more than 4R size.
As for me, my 2mb cam is not enough to blow my pic up to 8R. Something which I regret. Oh well...
But then, why not get the olympus Miu 300 or 400 ?
Think miu 300 is 3x optical zoom, 3mp. 400 is 3x optical zoom, 4mp
Or Canon A70, Ixus 400, Nikon 3100? -
Get the FujiFilm A205, one of the new models, 2.0 MP and 3x optical zoom, I feel its perfect for beginners...and only at $265, its a good deal.

all of you guys are recommending 3X zoom... is it really enough? Since it's a digital camera not SLR, meaning that the 3X will only be 3X no matter what, is it a good idea to get 10X so that I could take further pictures even I do not need the extra zoom much often...

if not..there's the C740 also..with 3.2MP and 10x zoom at around $700 or so..but the C740 has no hot shoe for external flashes..
and one more thing is..these 2 models use the xD picture card for memory..and xD picture cards cost twice as much as compact flash (a 128MB olympus xD picture card will cost around $100 as compared to $50 for CF)

Like joho said. More zoom will result in more shake. You'll have to use tripod frequently or find some other method to hold you camera still.
