jnifur... keep the interest of yours burning ya. You are doing fine. Just practice more and shoot more shots to make it better. Since Digital Camera make it so much easier to do so and cheap too.
JOhO does has some photo outing... do join him and gang to get more juice on how to take better pix. -

too many to comment individually..
generally:
- work on exposure
-give more thought to the composition first before looking at LCD and composing as you go
-use a little fill-in flash for close-ups (some cameras allow you to have low-power flash, also consider pasting transluscent material (tissue?) over flash to reduce the flash power ..(t prevent wash outs - i often use that on normal cameras or digital ones for portraitures)
