and i think many people think so too.. even the traditional author of "Lao Fu Zi" did something like this.. where LFZ was the best man, went to "collect bride" and faced with this...
he kicked the door in, and got the bride, saying that people should not treat the bride like some kind of exhibit or something for sale...
i feel that humiliation of any kind is bad...

groom made to go into the middle of the street and sing... all that...
one of my friends said his lot of "heng-tai" was something else... the usual schtick by the bride's lot of "sisters"... she was against it and they were adamant...
the "heng-tai" were damned gungho... try to imagine this:
"don't want to open door right? you wait..."
they went downstairs, pulled out a pile of chains and chained the door close... went to the coffeeshop and had breakfast...
the "sisters" tried to call... until almost panic-strickened... the "heng-tai" came up again.. and asked nicely...
these things, could be avoided...
