  There was once I'm on a tour bus coming back from Johor, the bus was moving on the Tuas 2nd link towards Tuas checkpoint, I looked out and saw a very beautiful sunset, i recommended the area near Raffles Marina for such photo-taking, setting with a small island (Malaysia's Pulau Merambong) in the middle of the strait.

  yeah i've thot of going really west to get the sunset.. but eh.. quite inaccessible since i dun have a car. see how.

  Yes, quite inaccessible. But I can tell you how to go there if you don't mind taking a public bus.

  but for sunsets (and i guess sunrise) gotta see the weather also.. too cloudy or raining no point.

  Yes, there are bus services from Boon Lay interchange to serve the Tuas (Raffles Marina and Tuas checkpoint) area. Beside that, there's a bus terminal (Tuas terminal) nearby but very low demand.
