I remember the Ladybird books
they were read and handled to destruction when I was growing up an ice-age ago 
Current favourites are:
Frank Herbert and his son.. for the Dune series
WIlliam Gibson for Neuromancer and his short stories
P J O'Rourke for being the sleazeball that he is
uhh.. does Dilbert's writer Scott Adams count? -

i was in the club last time, i was crazy abt them. I buy all the story books, i subscribe bookworm magazine and the bookworm digest.
