SENTOSA
Flora and fauna is great if the contrast of the back and foreground is high, plus the depth of field brings about a sense of 3D.
Not one of my favourite topics, but the Butterfly Park offers excellent opportunities for such close up shots.
Taking an full size aquarium does not offer too much of a challenge. The holographic picture has to be taken just at the correct angle.... the jellyfish... well not much for the auto-focus to work on, isn't it?
Funny thing about the Musical Fountain is - why is it that I see so many flashes going on? Won't work, unless one is capable of using the Night Scene mode in some better cameras.

CITYSCAPE
taken at the Equinox, restaurant at the top of Sofitel Raffles (not sure if the name of hotel is correct), or otherwise the hotel on top of City Hall MRT.... and have a good meal at the same time.... call for reservation. Zoom slightly to overcome any dirt on the glass.
Millenia Walk... again good sky brings out building.
Clarke Quay
A couple of years back.... but Christmas is always a good time to roam Orchard Rd with your camera. Tripod optional.... these are all taken without tripod. Make use of dustbins, lamp post, fence, anything that is high and stable enough.
... no need to explain lah, everyone knows where this is. This side of Merlion can be a bit wet, so take care of the equipment. Tissue and cloth to wipe down is good. A bit overexpose, but I wanted to capture the hotel name at the background.
typical HDB neighbourhood, wait for Chinese New Year or Lantern Festival... plenty of good catch. -

No offense, but I seem to like ur overseas pictures more. Nothing much to say abt ur pics as they're .... simple, nothing much to boast abt.
I wouldn't comment much on the butterflies nor the flowers. Seems to me like a simple usage of Macro mode.
Halogram, I believe that no matter at what angle u took, you will not be able to bring out the effect that of a halogram. Correct me if i'm wrong
I have no idea what the jellyfish pics are abt, cos i certainly do not see them as they are, until u mentioned
The sentosa pics seems underexposed to me. I think it's juz me =)
Cityscape - IMHO, any decent PnS camera would be able to produce this kinda pics.
The "Twin Tower" - I agree with the nice blue sky
But I think zooming in more and cutting away the bottom would draw more attention to the buildings and the sky.
Clark Quay - Seems like there's no subject to the pics. The lighting are either too left-sided or right-sided.
Orchard - damn the stupid trees! blocking so much of the beautiful lights on the buildings
Esplanade (sp?) - Nice pic! But IMHO again, I would suggest a tighter crop, off with the excess sky and water. Ur merlion pic seems a little weird, cause ur main subject would be the Merlion itself. Why would u want to include the name of the hotel? Maybe a landscape shot of it would bring out more details instead.
Your locals pics are like tourists who takes pics for the sake of taking them, and not trying to bring something out in the picture itself. The above-mentioned are juz my 2cents worth. Don't have to take them seriously, cos u might have already known I'm lousy at taking pics my self Once again, no offence -

and as I'd said, they are snap shots. I am not trying to boast anything. Like most of the posts in this forum, the photos are really nothing to boast about.
I have already declared that I am just a snap-shooter. So I think that your comment on "nothing to boast about" may be a little unnecessary.
the flowers and butterflies.... yup just macro mode. not trying to make any point. Realistic thing about this genre is: most of these shots are just macro shots anyway. At best, it's a show case of nature's color, at worst, it is a boast of one's equipment superiority.
jellyfish... you got to try it sometime. BTW, the underwater world is a great place for shots... assuming you'd want to part with some money for the entrance fee.
cityscape... yup and pns camera, with a decent manual control can do these shots. those from the restaurant, they were just normal programmed shots. but my point is, these are nice places to shot, assuming you want to spring some bucks on the meal too.
cropping....since my camera has a relatively high megapixel count, I normally do it after the shot. I have already said that that they are unedited, unretouched and uncropped.
merlion... i have plenty of portrait shots, all taken on the same day.... didn't like it.
at the end of the day.... none of us are really exhibition level photographers, with the exception of pointblue, and possibly joho... (not sure who are the other serious photographers here).
having said that, I am not going to call you names just because you made some negative comments about my shots.
therefore, if I have offended you with the low quality of my photos, I apologise. Looking forward to see more of your work.

Will you be snapping pics of this year's light up? This is the one event I really miss. actually I seldom take pictures in Singapore. I will be away for a long holiday in december so it is unlikely I'd do Orchard again. okok, I agree that my "nothing to boast abt" comment might come across a little too rude, my bad. I apologise for that comment of mine.
The main reason why I chose to gave comments on ur pics is simple. U gave very detailed advices on my thread, so that kinda made me looked up to u. I was kinda expecting you to deliver more than this I was hoping my nooblet comment might help out a little, simple as that.
I'll be surprised if you're gonna call me names just for giving advices. And there's no need for u to apologise for the pics. They're not low quality, it's juz a matter of different perspectives.
Seems like both us still has a long way to go in the art of photography. What say you? -
