Lens Cleaning.

Will it be safe if i cleaned my lens with a damp cotton bud?
My Camera lens was dirty,having water stains(the stain when water dry up) and cleaning wif dry cotton bud or tissue did not help so i used a damp cotton bud...
It worked but later when i did a test shot on a window that was facing the sunlight i could see purplish lines on the LCD screen although the photo did not contain them.Is this a phenomena or the result of the damp cleaning? -
You have few options for lens cleaning solutions.
If you do not want any contact with the lens at all, a blower is advisable to blow off all the dust on it. If you have stains however, you can use a lens tissue (the special kind) or a microfibre cloth like those used to clean spectacles. Sometimes, there will be a cleaning fluid provided with cleaning kits, but used only those meant for photography.
A cotton bud is non-advisable. It has a tip which may potentially scratch the lens coating and damage it. Water is to be avoided at all costs.
If you already have water on it, use a tissue to wipe the water off and then use the aforementioned methods. If your lens has a filter thread, buy a UV or Skylight filter for your camera to protect the lens. -

so i just go ahead and clean the lens wif a spectacle cloth.. -
well... depends on what type of lens it is also. sometimes its better to spoil the coating abit rateher than letting dust or water from ruining a great shot while you reach for your lens cleaning kit. remember all that is black and white is theory. theory never won a war. when the time comes, you decide!
