June 20, Kallang Bahru Pizza Hut restaurant, 10am
Justin sat at the public bench outside the restaurant, smoking a cigarette.
Next to him is a blue “KupKia ”, a Honda Wave motorcycle, which carries a Pizza Hut box on its rear.
Justin had just gotten a job at the neighbourhoodÂ’s Pizza Hut branch as a Pizza Delivery Man. He looked at the KupKia and sighed- the company policy states that he will be provided free petrol only if he uses the companyÂ’s bike for deliveries! Justin would love to use his SP for deliveries!
But the rise in petrol fares and his desire to save money made him decide to use the KupKia instead.
“Delivery of one Regular Pepperoni stuffed crust pizza to Waterloo Street, Gee Hin Chan bicycle shop! And one large seafood pizza to Queenstown, block 647! “
The shopÂ’s manager interrupted JustinÂ’s thoughts and he went forward to collect the pizza bag. Putting the bag into the KupKiaÂ’s carrier box, Justin put on his helmet and started the KupKiaÂ’s engine.
“Vroom!”
The engine of the Kup started with a little roar.
“Wah… the engine so weak sia!” commented Justin as he rode out of the car park.
“Hey, be careful not to damage the pizza!” yelled the manager before returning to the shop.
Justin turned into Bendemeer road and headed towards Bugis.
The traffic was busy and the weather was hot.
Justin was already sweating profusely under his helmet.
Luckily, he was riding a motorbike and was able to squeeze through the traffic relatively easily.
“Oh man…traffic jam!” Justin groaned as he spotted the vehicles in front of him coming to a standstill.
Justin slowed the bike down and waited. 15 minutes before the stipulated delivery time is up! However, the situation was not improving and Justin could only inch forward a bit each minute.
“Wah lau eh!”
Justin turned around and saw Mr.Seow, an avid mountain biker who is riding a red Specialized M3.
Mr.Seow: “Sian… heavy traffic! “
Justin: “Ya lor…I’m gonna be late for my deliveries sia!”
Seow moved his bike nearer to the kerb as a car moved forward a little.
All of a sudden, Seow stood on his pedals and kicking his heels upwards, he bunny-hopped onto the pavement!
“See ya!” waved Seow as he rode off on the pavement, dodging a few pedestrians.
Justin snapped his fingers.
“Why didn’t I think of that!”
Pointing his bike to towards the kerb, he did a wheelie and was on the sidewalk a second later!
“Time to take the highway!” Justin laughed as he sped along the sidewalk, honking at pedestrians who are in his way.
“Siao gina!!!” scolded an old man as Justin sped past him, nearly running over his pet dog.
Within seconds, Justin was already at the front of the traffic!
“Whoa!” yelled Seow as the bike closed in on him.
“Coming thru!” announced Justin as he rode the bike onto the grass patch and overtook Seow.
Soon, the sidewalk came to an end. Justin took the road and rode towards Waterloo Street.
Gee Hin Chan bike shop, Waterloo Street.
A trial biker hopped onto the bench outside the GHC bike shop as the other customers watched on. A sticker with the name “tofushop193” could be seen on the Monty trial bike. With delicate moves, the trial biker leapt off the bench and did a 180 degree turn in mid-air before landing on both wheels gracefully.
“Whoa! That’s amazing!” cheered Yilong, a Kona MTB rider as the other customers clapped loudly.
“Pizza delivery!” smiled Justin as he handed the pizza over to the bike shop boss.
“Wah… U had delivered my pizza 10 minutes before the time limit!” commented the shop owner as he paid Justin for the pizza.
As Ah BoyÂ’s garage was rather near, Justin decided to pay him a visit.
Ah BoyÂ’s Garage, Jalan Berseh
“Aiyo! I said I wanted Hello Kitty decals! Not Snoopy decals!” complained Qiqi as she pointed at her pink Vespa scooter. “Blur lah, u! “
“Paiseh..Paiseh…I help u remove the decals now!” apologized Tan Toh Tuck, Terrance (friends call him tt3, for short), the new mechanic at Ah Boy’s.
“Oi, Justin! “ called out Ah Boy as he spotted his regular customer riding towards the shop. Justin parked his bike outside the shop and walked towards the workshop.
“U seem busy today, Ah Boy!” noted Justin as he noticed the excessive oil stains on his work clothes.
“Yeah, I’ve been working on this baby the whole day!” grinned Ah Boy as he motioned for Justin to come indoors.
“Yamaha R1!” gasped Justin as he stared at the familiar black R1. Could it be…
“Hello, Justin!” greeted a man on a wheelchair as he entered the workshop.
It was Johnson!
“Johnson! I didn’t know that you were discharged already!”
“yeah…got discharged yesterday! I’ve decided to get Ah Boy transport the bike here this morning to do some repair works on it! “ smiled Johnson.
“But you….” Started Justin as he stared at Johnson’s missing leg and realized how tactless he was. “I’m sorry..”
“Don’t worry, I’m not angry!” Johnson laughed “Besides, I might sell this bike in the future, so it’s best I repair it as soon as I could!
After chatting with Ah Boy and Johnson for a while, Justin started his bike and headed towards Queenstown for his next delivery.
Kim Seng Road, outside Great World City
“Zoom!!!” a blue Yamaha X1 zoomed passed Justin as he was about to change lanes.
“What the hell!” cursed Justin as he nearly lost his balance. The rider was carrying a MacDonalds delivery bag. The lights turned red and the X1 rider stopped at the stop line. Justin stopped his bike next to him, intending to give him a piece of his mind.
Justin: “Hey! U nearly crashed into me, u know!”
Mac Rider: “Blame it on your lousy riding skills la!”
Justin: “What! Are u looking for trouble?!”
At that moment, the lights turned greenÂ…
Mac Rider: “Alright, prove that u can beat my X1 then!”
The Mac Rider twisted the throttle and sped off towards Queenstown.
Annoyed, Justin went after him!
As the X1 was a faster bike, Justin had a hard time keeping up with him on the straights. However, the rider wasn’t very confident in the corners and that gave Justin many opportunities to catch up. However, the corners soon ended and the X1 started to pull away again. Smirking, Justin drafted the X1 and tailgated him very closely, putting the pressure on the him. “This isn’t a race! This is a leisure ride!” smirked Justin as he noticed the X1 rider’s lack of skills. Both riders charged down Alexandra Street at high speed! A traffic light junction soon appeared. Changing lane to the right, Justin accelerated and attempted to overtake the X1 rider!
“Oh no , u don’t !” shouted the X1 rider as he twisted the throttle even further.
The lights had turned yellow!
Instead of slowing down, Justin had accelerated instead!
Not wanting to lose to Justin, the X1 rider dragged the engine to red line and shot forward!
The lights had turned red!
“Screech!” Justin did an emergency brake and avoided crossing the stop line by inches!
“What the…”muttered the X1 rider as he looked in his mirror. “Ahhhhhhhh!”
Crash!
The X1 had collided into a Lexus SUV!
The Lexus driver was so impatient that he drove off the moment the lights on his side of the road turned green, failing to check his blind spot beforehand!
The X1 rider was not hurt, but the fast food he was supposed to deliver was ruined!
“There goes my salary for today!” moaned the X1 rider as he shook his head.
He looked at the angry Lexus driver and sighed. “And my 5 months salary too!”
The lights soon turned green and Justin sped off to make his delivery.
Who shall Justin face in his next race?
