ISO setting

For those camera ppl do u set ur ISO setting esp during night time or leave it in auto?Because most camera when left in auto would jack the iso up to ISO 400 which make the photo more grainy...but when u adjust the ISO its kinda troublesome esp when taking photo of a quick object or so?
Whats the recommended ISO during night time? -

it depends if u want a noisy shot or a blur shot.
for the same exposure and aperture (for most compacts, aperture cannot be set anyway) WITHOUT flash,
a) lower iso means u need slower shuter speed - lower noise at the expense of possible camera shake
b) higher iso means u can have a faster shutter speed, higher noise with possibly much less camera shake.
between having a grainy/noisy image and a blurred image due to shake, i'd rather have the grain/noise.
so conclusion, whack the iso till the cows come home.

For long exposure i like the set it to the lowest iso available, since it's a night scene and like mine to be least grainy. -
If you are using a Fuji DSLR, you can take the chance to up your ISO till 1600.
Nikon D100 and below.. best to keep the max at 1250, anything else, I found it to be not worth the shot.
