I think the fight cherography here is typical of 90s style... they fight at an arm's length and exchange blows quite far from each other. Also, the fighting is excessively flashy with a lot of extra moves, typical of 90s fighting cherography, which was moving away from 80s style (acrobatic and sudden strike type fights).
I think the in thing for fight cherography nowadays is to spar closer at elbow length and with most of the moves meaning something. I think the style I kinda like the one that uses wire fu, but not excessively like Charlie's Angles (though the Matrix movies implemented them very well because it fitted well into their concept of bending the rules of the Matrix) in with realistic, not so flashy fighting. As of such, I kinda like the fight style which they came up with in Shanghai Knights.
