I have social anxiety, and I tried studying for diploma twice, but I ended up dropping out both times because I just couldn't cope with all those group projects.
Anyway, I only have O'level cert at the moment. How do I further my studies? I need a study environment where there isn't group projects. Where should I go next?
I actually have a few options in mind:
Option 1: Doing A levels as a private candidate. They actually have smaller classes over there, and they also have individual coaching.I think I might thrive in this environment because there isn't any group projects.
Option 2:
Go take a certificate course in the field that I am interested in. This certificate course doesn't have any group projects like the way diploma courses often have, so I might end up thriving in here too.
Anyway, my mom kept saying that the A levels thing is a bad idea. Is it really a bad idea? Which option should I go for? Option 1 or Option 2?
hi i think you may have social anxiety disorder because your anxiety is affecting your daily life like interacting with your classmates.
You need to go see a doctor at polyclinic then ask for a referral to IMH for your social anxiety.
At IMH you will see a psychiatrist who prescribes you medication that can cure your anxiety and make you feel better. Your psychiatrist will also make you an appointment to see a psychologist for psychotherapy which is like talk therapy and will make you feel better.
To cure your anxiety disorder effectively you need both medication and psychotherapy.
There is no stigma going to IMH. There are many people in Singapore who have anxiety problems.
oh dear i have social anxiety too!! i am reeeaaaaallllyyy awkward with people and my schoo life generally ain't too great.
do u know what you want to do? does "interested" implies something you really wanna do in life? if so, go for it!
if not do A levels only waste money to pass time :/ this is just my opinion :)
I have social anxiety too and have struggled with group projects during my school days. I feel you :( I agree that you should really go for what you are most interested in and also consider the career prospects. All the best to you. :)
Oh, so I am not the only one with Social Anxiety.
I mean if you really want to be an 'A' level Candidate, go ahead! Don't let this anxiety get you girl! But of course Option 2 is better in my opinon.
As you see, Opinon 2 is like something you are intrested in, something you would work hard yet you would be comfortable in. But to be honest, in reality, we need to interect, no matter what field or whatever you are in. So don't let that anxiety get you alright?
You go woman.
I'm sorry I am only 14 so yeah. Might not be the best advice but I tried haha.
Option 2 bah
Seems like option 2 should be the choice, but at the same time you should get help to treat the symptom, because in future you can't just work by yourself, you have to interact with others.
first thing first, try ur best to solve ur anxiety. if you had tried, try harder. solving it opens a lot of doors. in the mean time you can study on ur own a subject that you like. a subject that can land u a job in the future, dont study things like flower arrangement(just an example), its not realistic to arrange flower for a living.
Nothing to worry about this , You have start with fresh your LIFE
Hi, I think you need to solve your social anxiety first. Even if you go for courses (non-diploma just certificate), no offence but you might still end up dropping out. I agree with what 160cmGuy post here, you should see a doctor at a polytechnic and ask for referal for IMH.
First try to solve your social anxiety then go for certificate courses (those short ones if you don't want to overwhelm yourself). But I suggest you should continue studying and getting a diploma because honestly speaking, there is a lot of empoyers/boss in small/big company in Singapore that will only hire degree holders and there are a lot of degree holders in singapore with no job...with your O level cert you might not be able to get a good job or a good pay and with prices increasing in Singapore, its quite hard to have a family in the future if you want to married.
I'm not trying to force you or anything, I'm just giving a suggestion.
You can continue your studies by studying A level. I'm not really so sure why since I don't study A levels but people that I know that do says that A level cert. Is useless unless you continue and get a degree cert. Maybe its something to do with what your majoring, and how A levels don't really major any particular career..? I really don't know.
most importantly go for something that you like and have interest. i can understand we may not exactly know what career we actually want after high school. but always ask yourself happy or not , just some opinion. :)
you should decide what you want to be when you grow up and work towards your ambition. That will be the source of motivation within you.
Just follow your heart and so what u want best :
anxiety is a pain in the ass. well, i would say u should, like what many have said, try to figure out how to deal with ur SA first. cant avoid people forever. and i think u should take option 2 , find a course u like to do, instead of doing a levels. hope this is still relevant
You need to get help to resolve your SA. There is no shame in Life to get help.
Family and friends support is important too.
Cheers
Can try studying in NITEC?
