HONG KONG - Hong Kong's celebrity crocodile, which has been caught after months on the run, is to be housed in a purpose-built home bigger than most people's bedrooms in this crowded city, wildlife experts said yesterday.
However, they warned that the female salt-water crocodile was refusing to eat, a day after it was captured following a seven-month hunt.
The crocodile ignored two live fish yesterday, and veterinarians will try to serve it chicken, beef and more fish soon, said Mr Albert Hui, a spokesman for the Conservation Department.
The crocodile, nicknamed 'Gucci' by designer- label obsessed Hong Kongers, will be kept in quarantine at a wildlife care centre for three months after it gets a full health check.
Ms Idy Wong of Kadoorie Farm, which runs the care centre, said it was busy preparing its new home.
'It will have a pond with enough room for it to move around and a dry area where it can feed,' said Ms Wong.
The enclosure measures about 200 sq ft. A modest flat in urban Hong Kong measures not more than 300 sq ft.
'She'll have a bigger bedroom than most people I know,' said Ms Wong. -- AFP, AP -
